  • What is the deal/bargain? "Opportunity"- fantastic! What can I actually buy? Give me fixed prices and products.

    • Hi bargain_knight, there are a range of offers on the wyngle site across electronics, sporting goods, fragrances, clothing etc. You can check them all out here - www.wyngle.com.au, but here are some examples…

So you pay full, expensive price for an item, and you have a 'chance' of getting it for 1 dollar?

    Sounds dodgy to me.

    • -1

Hi IsometricBacon, We work really hard to come up with a fair market price on our offers, with the added bonus of potentially getting it for $1. We have a price check feature on the site, which allows you to compare our prices to other trusted online retailers so you know you're getting a great deal.

We're not always the cheapest online price, but you don't pay a premium to cover the $1 items - in some cases we're the cheapest online. When you factor in the ratio, you will be hard pressed to find a better deal on many of the items.

    competitions are not bargains.

    • Hi quickling, This depends on how you look at it. Wyngle runs a sequential ordering system which means that if you buy 3 items at a 1 in 3 ratio, then you will be guaranteed to get one of them for $1.

I'd like to invite you to the site and check out our prices. Aside from the chance to get something for $1, a lot of the deals are bargains in themselves.

  • This is one for the forum.

Spam. Gimmicks like this are more like competitions, and don't belong on OzBargain.

seems pretty dodgey. can i instant refund if i dont get it for $1

    • -1

Hi alebox, we provide like-for-like exchanges for faulty products and wrong sizes etc. Because of the way the system works, we don't offer refunds if a customer changes their mind, otherwise people would cheat the system.

We only work with authorised distributors of genuine products, so you'll always get what you purchase with the quality brands we offer.

    God, this is horrible.

Auctions/competitions aren't bargains. Check rules before posting.

    • -1

Hi CarbonTwelve, because the $1 items are determined sequentially, not randomly, we aren't a typical competition. We have a trade promotion license from the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing and they have confirmed that we don't fit into the usual competition guidelines. Competitions are about a whole lot of people entering a draw and one or a few lucky winners get a prize - the odds are very low and the winners are selected randomly. On Wyngle, we offer every item on the site with a ratio which determines the odds that you could get something for $1. The ratios are between 1 in 2 and 1 in 10, so you've got a pretty good chance to pick up something for $1.

      • +2

Doesn't matter what the odds are, or what Liquor Gaming and Racing have to say about it. OzBargain rules are that competitions aren't bargains. Unless you're offering something at a guaranteed price for everyone, it doesn't belong under "deals".

Where is the proof each 4th item is only $1?
They would no doubt just tell everyone "sorry you were unsuccessful" and no one would know any wiser. I don't see the profit ratio of the first 3 items being enough to cover the cost of a 4th.

Hi pizzin, This is a very good question and one that we've really worked on addressing. Ratio Shopping is a new concept and we need to build trust with our customers for the model to work. Here are some things we're doing to help achieve this trust:

      1. The system is inherently transparent because it's sequential so you can order 3 of a 1 in 3 item to guarantee a win.
      2. The Office of Liquor Gaming & Racing have reviewed the concept and have granted a trade promotion license for Ratio Shopping.
      3. We've had the source code for the Ratio Engine independently reviewed by a software development firm to make sure the $1 items are given away correctly.
      4. We post all the winners on the winners dial which you see scrolling on the homepage. We also post these on our Facebook fan page so you can see real people have won.
      5. We're working on getting our 2011 financial accounts independently audited by an accounting firm to confirm that we're giving away the $1 items according to the ratios.

We're always working on building this trust with our customers, so if you (or anyone else) has any further suggestions here, I'd really appreciate the input.

We use the margins available to retailers to create the ratios. It means we pass on a chunk of our margins to our customers. We only need a 25% margin (plus our margin) to create a 1 in 4 ratio. A 25% discount isn't particularly exciting to most customers, but having a good chance to get something for $1 is pretty compelling to most people.

The fact that you have to be 18 to buy from your site is proof that this is not as simple as it seems. Please take your predatory business practices away from here.

    Ratio shopping = gambling

    • -1

Hi AngryMan, we made the decision to only allow 18+ customers on the site to do the right thing by our customers. We are not required to have this in place, but we felt it was the right thing to do when we launched to avoid any negative feedback about us targeting youths. The Ratio Shopping system is as simple as it's described on the site.

We don't believe Ratio Shopping is gambling for a number of reasons:

      1. The regulatory body which governs this area has confirmed it's not gambling and hence granted us a trade promotion license, not a gambling license.
      2. With gambling, you can walk in with a lot of money and walk out with nothing. With Ratio Shopping, you get the product you chose, either at the fair price you were prepared to pay, or for a dollar. You can't lose.
      3. The logic is different because with gambling, you're paying a small amount of money up-front in the hope of winning a large amount of money. With Ratio Shopping, you're committing to a higher amount of money up-front (the fair market price) with the hope of paying a lesser amount of money.
      4. We haven't seen any signs of addictive spending behavior on the site. We've had some happy repeat customers, but they haven't been purchasing unnecessarily.

Why do shysters persist in posting this rubbish? It's called OzBargain, not OzSucker.

  • +1

"Opportunity" to buy?? - it's based on "Chance", therefore a gambling or lottery site!

  • +1

    Definitely gambling.

  • Hi Everyone, thanks for your comments. It's important for us to get feedback (good and bad) about the Ratio Shopping concept. We're a world-first Australian innovation and although it takes a bit of time for people to understand the ins and outs of it, all our customers have really loved it.

I hope I've helped address some of your concerns above. I had to repeat some things in a few of the replies to make sure I addressed everything I could for everyone who posted.

We truly stand by our brand and the concept and I welcome everyone to come onto the site and take a look for yourself.

Wyngle was covered on Sky News recently which you might want to have a look at as well…

Obviously you paid Sky News to feature just like Kogan and COTD and if you can afford timeslots on those programs, you must be making a killing.

      • +1

.. or have high initial investment. I almost feel sorry for the investors.

      • Hi k, that's not really how news programs work (I can't speak for the other companies you mentioned or other forms of media as it's not my area). Sky News approached us because they believe we've got an innovative concept and they wanted to feature us on their show about new technology.

We've got some happy customers who are buying things and the idea is starting to take off, but we only launched the proper site in Dec '11 and I wouldn't say we're making a killing just yet.

Having actually just watched the segment, it is nothing but a paid advertisement.

The interviewer didn't feel the need to pick up on the most obvious contradiction, that apparently 'the discount model is unsustainable' yet this will offer the same savings over multiple purchases. Either the unsustainable comment is rubbish, or this is not as cheap as the competitors over multiple purchases. Pick one.

        • +1

That sort of tokenly-critical publicity is no longer a reliable indicator of money having changed hands. Many an underresourced news outlet is just happy to have a story that's so quick and easy to throw together.

I bought from them before. Never again. I ended up with a worthless $100 voucher. I wanted to trust this site, but they listed the voucher for a website. In the end it was in store only. I can't get to the store without going well out of my way.

In my opinion there are quite a few things worth buying. I just got burned because I bought it while the site was quite new, some months ago.

    • Hi auna, when we first launched the site, we did have some vouchers and admittedly the redemption process wasn't clear on the site. We pulled those vouchers as soon as we became aware of the issue. I apologise that it was a bad experience for you.

If you would like to return the voucher to us, we can offer you $100 credit to spend on anything else you like on the site.

i think that if you are after that item and its the price is competitive (ie. +/- say 5%) then go for it

the problem is just looking at two items i found both were about $100 more expensive than from any other store… so yeah… to me paying $100 more for the chance of getting it for $1… i'll pass

$100 in my pocket is sure thing, unlike this site

I think everyones giving these guys a hard time, but their idea is pretty interesting. If you look at their prices 25% off (1 in 4) is easily covered by their price margin, could be a cool idea if they get some electronics in like ipads/consoles/phones etc.
