Nintendo DS Lite + Accessories

OK my daughter wants a DS Lite. I know very little about these save for:

  • Big W and JB HiFi seem to do good deals on the consoles

  • There are add-on cards that can be inserted that let you play backup ROMS

  • On EBAY a Chinese made non-Nintendo branded version is available - it's made by Nintendo's JV partner and is identical save for the brand on the box/case and that it will play Chinese language games

What I need help with is:

  • finding the best price for a pink console. Best I have to date is $186 from EB Games without any negotiation. Next best was $189 from GAME with a 7 piece accessory pack.

  • determining what the best add-on card is for her needs (she needs it to be easy to use, not stick out externally from the console and play backup ROMs without the need for anything else to be inserted). By my limited info The Edge card looks good.

  • the best place to buy the recommended add-on card, including an 8gb memory card for it

I figure some of you guys will be able to point me in the right direction….

  • i have recently gone through this exercise, so will share my experience

I couldnt get the big-w sale (which was 199$, with 2 games) and k-mart (1 game for 199$), both sold out. I bought from jb hi-fi for 210$ (console, accessory pack, 1 old game) and another one from target (199$, 1 new game, accessory pack). As of now, target is cheap if they still have the 199$ deal. Because accessories will cost 15$+ and games are 25$+ atleast. Otherwise EB one for 186$ would be the next choice.

Screen protector, storage bag could be enough. I liked the 20$ box sold at JB for storing or travel. (I also got car travel charger from target sale, which was very handy).

I bought from dealextreme - superDS One with 1GB microsd for 35$, took about 10 days to receive, but works good. Later came to know, ozmodchips sells storage cards that can play backup roms. Their service and delivery is good. CycloDS would be the best card, as per many reviews.

  • Check this page for bargains on games, updated regularly and compiled nicely:

  • Thanks guys - both lots of info VERY helpful.

That games bargain page will come in handy for future purchases.

As far as the DS Lite is concerned, I'll goto JB Hifi today and try and do a deal with them.

Cyclo DS does sound great based on OzModchips review, but I'm not keen to pay twice the price at OzModChips vs DealExtreme (for say the Edge card) - unfortunately it appears Cyclo DS is not sold at Deal Extreme.

  • Good you got from JB. Did you order the flash card?.

  • I bought the DSTT from dealextreme, great card. No issues with it whatsoever.

    • GreenLego, off topic here, but did you use the DSTT with 2 NDS consoles? I mean, you got the game on DSTT and access it via Download play from 2nd console (without any card on it)?.

      • Sorry, no, I haven't tried it yet. I need to find someone who has an NDS… The reviews did say that Download Play works with DSTT though.

        • i heard that if you want to share a game from your card (DSTT) to other NDS, the other NDS will not play in download mode. Both devices need to be flashed with some custom firmware.

  • My bro and I have iQue DSes we got from China, but I don't recommend buying any online, simply because it might not be safe. XD Sometimes there -are- consoles that fail QC, and if you got it online it's much harder to send back and stuffs. :S

I'm using an R4, and bro's DS has a DSTT. Even though the R4 handles lower capacity (maximum is 2gb, to DSTT's…4gig? Maybe even 8gig), I wouldn't change it for anything else because
    1. There're a lot of user-made nice themes out there, and I can store/rotate 12 designs. ^^ (there was a horrible dearth of themes for DSTT, last I looked)
    and
    2. Moonshell ebook mode works on both screens for R4 — it only works on one screen with the DSTT.
    3. Download play has worked good so far, even though loading up is not perfect at times, it's usually fixed by reinserting the card.

Some people don't care about 1 and 2, but I do. XD Not sure if R4 is still available around though…

And yeah, heard good things about cycloDS, but I only have personal experience with others so..:)

  • www.focalprice.com(a site very similar to DealExtrem) get lots of accessories of video games.Price is good and charge nothing for shipping unless you choose EMS.But they donnot provide consoles at this moment.

  • I bought the r4 from ndscardsale.com.great card.Have not found problems with it.If you Interested in then ,you can see the web site

  • Currently most Australia R4 stores have closed and they have their warehouse in China now.
