Mysterious Package, Online eBay Scam ' Brushing'

Hi OzB,

I received an email and auspost notification that I had a delivery on its way From a seller I didn't recognised.

The Delivery Details had my personal details but ALSO had other details which I haven't seen on other ebay packages.

Abn#64652016681
Code:paid

After searching the ABN, entity name was eBay Marketplaces GmbH and was active from 1 Jun 2018,

Second link I found was that this package could be a potential scam called "brushing".

People have reported they have received cheap, unsolicited packages. Tracking says the package will be left in a safe place today so when I get home, I will find out what it is.

Any advice what to do with the package or anything else?

Cheers.

Update: Small yellow envelope with an iPhone cable, I don't even have an iPhone so I'll put it in my box full of cables.

the third-party seller writes a fake, five-star review of the product it has just "sold" and sent to you, using your name as the author.

So the stuff I get sent is free? Cool!
Not quite. It comes at a cost.

By the lack of response I’m guessing OP bought something on ebay and forgot about it 😆

  • Unsolicited goods.

Either keep it or if there's a return address (unlikely) just send it back.

    Up to you OP.

I’ve received a few fake Auspost emails lately. Are you sure it is genuine?

This is my thought, lots of fake emails about packages from various sources.

  • I've received parcels with that on the auspost tracking (but not on the parcel itself). It is a 3rd party shipping company which receives bulk packages from China and then sends out via Auspost with a local return address. Mine are from eBay purchases that originate from China which takes around 1-2 weeks to arrive. Most of these are those eBay China sellers that say they have AU stock
