Thanks for your time all,

First post here, my son found this as a potential PC he wants to get, I'm matching him $ for $.

    That would be relatively slow and all the components are very old. The processor alone is nearly 10 years old.

    I would keep looking.

    Agreed with above comments. Old overpriced components.

    My suggestion would be to get a Refurbished Dell Optiplex (~$200) and adding your own GPU (might be difficult in the current climate).

      A GT1030 is probably the best half-height GPU you can get at the moment,
      You should be able to get it under $150 (not great but better than ~$400 for a GTX1050Ti or GTX1650 Low Profile).

        Wouldn't recommend the GT 1030, even the 4GB 1050ti. An RX570 runs heaps better than both from personal experience. I managed to pick up a RX570 for less than $200

          I was thinking of it being a more temporary solution while waiting for GPU prices to normalise.
          With the optiplex, you're limited to half height GPUs which will make getting a deal more difficult

      +1, those Dell Optiplex towers are a really good option. They're quite cheap and easily upgradeable for the most part.
      I have one with an i7-2600, 8GB of RAM and a RX570 and I can run most if not all games on medium high graphics.

    Thanks Guys!! When i looked on pcpart picker its seemed ok, but the tech specs are very non descript

      I would recommend building one.

      $10-30 (Gumtree) $49+ Ozb Computer Case.
      $55 PSU
      <$100 motherboard or Intel equiv.
      ~$230 CPU - Something like AMD Ryzen 3600 or Intel i5-10400F
      ~$105 RAM - 16GB 3200MHz DDR4
      ~$66-$116 ~500GB-1TB Storage

      = ~$550 sub-total. And then just pick a second hand or new graphics card (~$150 GTX1060 and up).

      = ~$700 total.

        Ha, no way you're getting a 1060 for that. You'll be lucky to get a GTX1050

          That was just a quick search, only one result and it's probably gone already.
          There's a somewhat equivalent GTX980 for $220 negotiable.

    i5-2500 was launched 10 years ago. A new RX 560 would be ~$300 in today's climate although they were $150-$200 when they launched 3-4 years ago…

    Look elsewhere as mentioned by other commenters.

    Would be a good idea to list any games or what he wants to do with the PC OP. We can recommend what to get but don't know what specs we are trying to meet.
