How to Keep Your Amaysim Number Active for Another Year?

Hey guys,

Last year I had setup a secondary Amaysim number for my parents which I manage for them.
It was mainly for receiving texts and calls, and not for outbound calls. So, there is no plan attached.

It is coming almost close to an year. I don't want to risk losing the number.

I am now seeing the "Your UNLIMITED plan has expired." warning message.
There is about $23 worth of credit which expires in about 6 days.

I am given two options:
• Restart Your Plan
• Change Plan

They both lead to

Given that I would like to keep my number active for another year, do I need to choose a paid plan (*) first, or could I select the $0 PAY AS YOU GO option again?
Also, is there any way to prevent expiry of existing credits?

(*) Could I select the cheapest plan - $10 for 7 days, and then select the $0 PAY AS YOU GO option after it expires?

Any pointers in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

  • Just click the $0 option and see if it extends the plan.

    • Just tried it. I got this message: "The changes to your mobile plan are being processed.".

Nothing has changed so far. Existing credits are still set to expire in 6 days.

    Try the above first.
Not free but if you are really worried and want to keep the number just switch to Aldi's $5 PAYG for the next year

    • Aldi's $5 PAYG(aldimobile.com.au) for the next year

Yes, sir. I will be hopping to the above plan if Amaysim doesn't come through in the next couple of days.

  • Update: The plan has changed to AS YOU GO now.
However, credits are still set to expire in 6 days. I guess I will chat to Amaysim when they are open.

I pay $10/year (for $10 worth of credit) to keep my number, pretty sure this is the $0 PAYG plan. adding $10 credit keeps your credit from expiring.

    • Same here

    • Thank you for the reply.
Does the keep-alive amount have to be $10 exactly?

As I already have enough credit, I am going to try adding $1 to begin with.

I think the minimum is $10, but you can try Bpay. However, Amaysim may decline $1 recharge.

Maybe try changing your plan to one of the lowest cost unlimited plans, say $10 for 7 days (I guess this is what you are thinking). That might change the credit expiry date to another year.

This was more than a year ago, and given that amaysim is now owned by Optus, things may have changed. But IIRC I tried adding $1 through BPay. The money did get added (along with a message that the minimum was $10), but the expiry date didn't change. So I thought might as well use up the credit and changed to the $10 for 28 days plan. That actually got the expiry date extended another year.

    • Thank you for the very helpful reply.

The money did get added (along with a message that the minimum was $10)

I guess I will find out in 2 - 3 days when the BPay transaction settles.

Exactly where did you see the above message?

So I thought might as well use up the credit and changed to the $10 for 28 days plan

I plan to be doing the same one day before the expiry.

      • He means changing your plan to $12/mth(no more $10/mth) by using your existing $23 credits will extend the expiry date. You do not need to pay anything.

Since you paid $1, you got another $12 credits to use next year. Change it to PAYG before the 1st renewal finishes.

        • Since you paid $1

I was curious to see if it actually works since if you use CC/DC as the payment method you cannot go below $10.

Change it to PAYG before the 1st renewal finishes.

I have auto renewal switched off all the time. I believe it automatically switches to the PAYG plan (although it won't say so officially on the dashboard) once you fail to renew your UNLIMITED plan after 28 days.

        • (no more $10/mth)

They actually have a $10 for 7 days/10GB plan ("Short term plans"), but only if you are already on amaysim. It's in OP's screenshot.

      • Exactly where did you see the above message?

Can't remember exactly, must be either email or SMS.
