Discrimination against male applicants - QLD Police

Has anyone else seen the articles about the QLD Police's discriminatory hiring practices?

https://7news.com.au/news/qld/queensland-police-union-labels…

I work in the private sector in middle management and I know for a fact that in my current and previous companies, the 50/50 quota gets discussed behind closed doors when making decisions on who to hire, but I never expected to see such a public reveal from within a government agency.

For the record, I don't agree with a simple 50/50 quota and think that people should get hired based on merit only. I get that there are certain positions where having a particular sex may be more desirable (such as a counsellor or health professional that mainly deals with female patients or vice versa), but for the majority, whoever has the experience or capability should get the role rather than aiming for a 50/50.

It'd be interesting to see how many others have experienced this kind of thing at their place of employment. So fire away and share your stories about your employment and quotas!

                • @Ughhh: So in that case what is your actual opinion on it, instead of trying to ascertain mine. That way you can contribute to the topic instead of being argumentative.

                  • @mdavant: You stated you believed violence was the way to go for most situations, Im learning about this so wanted your view in certain situations so I can form informed opinions.

If you want to get all defensive, then ok.

                    • @Ughhh: Once again, I never said that.

                      Please quote where I did

Otherwise, please contribute to the discussion rather than trying to be an antagonist.

I see Channel 10 has addressed this "discrimination" matter. It has announced that the next so-called 'Bachelorette' will be an indigenous bi-sexual, with both male and female 'contestants'.

    That should keep everyone quiet.

      She's too white washed lol.

About as Aboriginal as the blonde who hosts Bachelorette. Sonia Kruger is it?

Is a job application for a government dept such as Treasury asking a question like.

"Is english your first language?" I find that quite discriminatory.

Most migrated immigrants have their own mother language but doesnt that put favouritism over local white folks? One could lie,…..but I still find that unnecessary to put in a job applicant questionnaire.

….about criteria selection it is always bias with favouritism, never about actual job skills, academic excellence and etc.

In this new age, I find female politician are more equipped than their male counterparts someone like maybe Jacinda Arden?. I really like our current NSW premier too and how she handle things.

Male politician have too much time. Instead of looking for new ways to help the community but they mostly ended in looking of ways to sabotage each other, seeking/demanding sex due to position, child sex crime, porn browsing, money fraud, spending tax payers money as extra allowance, using position or finding ways to benefits oneself instead of being the public servant that they are meant to be. Seriously how does one get into politics? Get a law, economics or business degree?, be in the politics club?, exchange politician contacts, shake their hand and dont forget to call and you are in?

Why does one wants so much to be a politician? Is it to help the people or be the servant of the people? Its neither for most, mostly people who wants to be a politician is to have power and to maintain power its never for the people because if it is for the people, they would have all project done in half the time, resources, people, money ( it always could be a fraction but it must goes x multiplier because miscalculation) that is what i called legal corruption because they are allowed to make multiple mistakes.

Look at the ratio of our parliament
Less than 10% members are non english speaking (US is about 25%, UK no need to compare too obvious). Usually at school, the smartest ones are grouped together in selective school (we are talking about 99% aseans, these are not made up but a fact and they are all drilled to study like robots to be put into selective industry in medicine, science and technology, we are talking the brains of the country are from these batch). Most of our more current male PMs are from Sydney, we change PMs like we change our underpants after John Howard

Kevin Rudd 7 yrs got stab by….
Julia Gillard 3 yrs got stab by….
Tony Abott 3 yrs got stab by…
Malcolm Turnbull 4 yrs got stab by…
Scotty boy Morrison 4 years and counting

Most people will argue it is all about passion, I would argue it is all staged, I am sure most of those PM are removed without public vote and the criteria politicians selection are always ….not really what the public wanted but have no choice.

The truth is most politician are in for the wrong reasons.

It is like chosing a basket of mogwai 's, but actually they are all gremlins in disguise and you will get a stripe.

We need capable leaders to fix our deficits* and not the ones who are under qualified in terms of knowledge, and dirty tactics trying to ruin others just to get a better payroll.

    OOPs off topic

We should have only Judge Dredds or Robocops that should fix the current discrimination problem.

    • doesnt that put favouritism over local white folks

Yes, only white people speak English 🙄

  • So, future episodes of RBT will include Joseph the transgender female sergeant accompanied by "IT" the non binary possibly transexaual aboriginal constable who happens to be of torres straight islander descent. And the police dog whippa.

  • I took over a team as a manager a few years back in an industry where maybe <5% of the workforce is female. Across my team and our team in Sydney it was approximately 40% female and it was clear that some of the hiring decisions had been made just to hit a quota. 2 of them were great, very high performers, and two were shockingly bad, and no amount of training helped. The others were average performers. I would never hire to make a quota personally, it should always be the best person for the role/team, people need to be a cultural fit first, and second they need to either have the skills, or the ability to learn the skills needed.

GOtta be honest. I'm willing to do anything a white blonde young hottie Police officer tells me to do. I've never been so excited to see a police officer until Michelle from Coogee stopped me for accelerating very fast in a 50 zone. She made me get out of the car too because my details were in the boot. Man she was a dream.

She even told me she wasn't married after I politely asked her with a school boy smile on my face.

    • ….you should ask for her number 🤣 so you got a fine ticket ya? Lol

      • +1

No, I wasn't speeding. I was just spooling the turbo and braking because I wanted to hear the sound. lol

        Wasn't my car. lolz

Any hot cop chick is every man's dream come true.
          (Thanks to Police Academy)

But on a serious note, Sydney does have some fine looking female cops. Just plain gorgeous…ok better close the app b4 wife reads this.

  • The ADF and Firies are the same these days.
Women and indigenous quotas need to be filled, then they will look at the best possible applicant after that.

    • In the ADF the minimum period of service is also half for all women.

I'd totally give pilot a crack after uni if it was an 8 year contract but nope, I'm a bloke so its 16 freakin years…

      • No way! They must have changed that. I'm ex army and it was always the same minimum service, for other ranks anyway.

    Cringe thread. Mods pls delet

Need me to find you a safe space?

      • +1

Nah I'm right. As for the snowflake that comes to a retail bargain website to vent andmake ostensible claims about diversity policy, perhaps you might need one?

    • -1

      Agreed

  • Wish they would bring back the one dollar notes! At least makes them to their own compliance girls carry something and harder for them to hide. I had an encounter with one that had ripped off 3 previous husbands with an expensive house each and she is asking for some bank transfer but all I ever give her is cash. Hopefully my mates at the feds have time to stop her down the road!

I fully support positive discrimination against men in the hiring process. Accelerationism is the only fix for the madness. Let Rome burn so we can get back and rebuild.

    • +1

and while they are at it, Joe Biden should change genders, so we can finally have the first women president of the united states!

      Left-wing radicalism personified.

As a male I was unable to get a job modelling Lorna Jane sweatpants.

  • I’ve been watching Jordan Peterson…..

Women favour jobs to do with people and men favour jobs to do with things (my paraphrasing).

I think the qualification to be a police officer has traditionally been skewed towards men.

I think police roles requiring more physical capabilities ought to be made available to those men and women that pass a physical standard.

But more women police in roles that more heavily deal with people such as community liaison makes sense to me.

On another note there is a reason we don’t see quotas being talked about in bricklaying.

On another note there is a reason we don’t see quotas being talked about in bricklaying.

Why can't they just make lighter or smaller bricks? 😊

      • Because it would be inefficient and less durable but you would still want the same pay.

        • +1

That was actually meant to be a tongue in cheek comment! haha

But more women police in roles that more heavily deal with people such as community liaison makes sense to me.

If women really wanted these roles, they'd be applying for them. They're not applying so any effort to get them in is essentially a form of mansplaining - it's telling women what we think is right for them instead of letting them make their own independent decision.

On another note there is a reason we don’t see quotas being talked about in bricklaying.

Bricklaying requires a lot of hard work and carries significant risks of injury. Social rules for the last thousand years dictate that such a burden must fall exclusively on men, and any effort to change this is interrupting the natural order of things.

Meanwhile it's completely reasonable, essential even, to push women away from established social norms.

      • "Social rules for the last thousand years dictate that such a burden must fall exclusively on men, and any effort to change this is interrupting the natural order of things."

"If women really wanted these roles, they'd be applying for them."

        • Social norms apparently dictate things for men but not women.

      • natural order of things.

There's no such thing. Anything that exists by definition is natural.
