Temperature Sensor Gauge?

Hi,

I'm looking to check the air temperature in my cellar, can anyone recommend a unit off eBay or Amazon?

I notice cheap $5-10, however 1 review stated 3° over for 1 product.

I don't mind paying more, if it's a nice unit I could use elsewhere in my home.

Thanks

  • I notice cheap $5-10, however 1 review stated 3° over for 1 product.

out of how many reviews? You'll always get some units slightly out. Plus you have to assume that reviewer was comparing it to something correct in the first place. Maybe the other unit was reading 3c under?

At the end of the day even if its a few degrees either way, surely this is good enough? If it reads 20c then your cellar is most likely in the 19-21c range ;)

    • Yeah, their like $3-8 online.

      • Ok, get one online then and risk it being inconsistent or incorrect?

You said you didn’t mind paying more, which is why I shared what I have and trust.

By the way, I bought this one to replace a $3 one I bought off ebay that was inconsistent and incorrect. A friend of mine had this one off jaycar and I compared my $3 ebay one with theirs and my eBay one was up and down to the jaycar one, and was just unreliable. It wasn’t consistently x degrees lower, it was just completely wrong. Also being in the direct sunlight would cause it to have absolute issues and it would show being like 10 degrees when it was clearly much hotter. Whereas the jaycar one will accurately understand its in the sun and hot.

But YMMV. So grab the cheap one online and let us know how you go.

        • They look exactly the same, Jaycar probably just rebadged it.

          Literally, just saying.

@[Deactivated]: If you find one that doesn’t fail like the one I bought from eBay, please post it as a bargain for all to see.

  • There's plenty on Amazon.

We have a white version of this in the server closet - also gives you humidity.

    • Yeah, just hoping something is actually accurate 😬

We have a $400 EcoWitt indoor/outdoor weather station and the $10 standalone unit is within 0.1 degrees of the indoor monitor at all times. Assuming of course that the moor expensive and comprehensive unit is accurate too!

  • Far more features than you'd need, but Netatmo stations include an indoor module that does temp/humidity/sound/CO2 levels and has a good app to log. They're circa $500 which is probably a bit more than the 'paying more' you've mentioned.

Sensibo AC controllers also measure temp (down to a decimal point) and humidity and are networked.

We use this $391 industrial grade thermometer

May need to purchase additional probes/sensors.
