Framing Large Canvas Prints

Hi,

So I have these 2 rather large canvas prints that I need framed.

  1. Landscape
    Width 1105mm / 110.5cm / 43.5 inch
    Height 610mm / 61cm / 24 inch

  2. Portrait:
    Width 610mm / 61cm / 24 inch
    Height 855mm / 85.5 / 33.6 inch

When I walked in to FramesNow hoping to get something quick (day or two) and cheap ($100 each) I was quite shocked to know that it would cost upwards of 300 for just a regular frame and upto 700 for a 'floating' frame.

Then I tried other smaller shops and the cheapest quote I received is $140 for a regular frame and will take up to 2 weeks cause they all apparently send it somewhere to get it done.

The last option is DIY I guess by purchasing timber from Bunnings and doing it myself with the help of YouTube videos.

I wonder if thats the standard price or I'm not looking at the right places? Any recommendations?

Thanks

  • There's a framing place in Chadstone Shopping Centre that a friend used to use that was very cheap and did a great job.

If you can cut perfect mitre joints and can get the proper glass at a good price DIY would be a lot cheaper of course.

Wonder why glass is needed? Its a canvas print.

  • Yeah it is expensive, i ended up just buying a frame from https://www.frameshop.com.au/ and stapling the canvas on myself. Doesnt look as good as a professional of course but good enough for me.

  • Bunnings seems to have some picture framing mouldings but not sure exactly how to use them: https://www.bunnings.com.au/porta-45-x-30mm-1-2m-tasmanian-o…
