What Do I Sacrifice Buying a Galaxy Phone off Kogan?

I'm in the market for a Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Australian model appears to be an SM-G998B. I can see a number of SM-G998B models on Kogan for really appealing prices ($300 cheaper than any Aussie bricks and mortar store). But they are listed as dual-sim which I'm pretty sure the Aussie models aren't.

I'm assuming if I have an issue with this phone in a year Samsung Australia wont cover it under warranty.

I also assume that should I want to trade up the phone for another Samsung in a few more years Samsung Australia wont honour the "cash back" deals they usually offer when trading an older Galaxy phone for a new one.

Is this correct? Any other advice? Is it ultimately worth paying the extra $300 and getting one from JB/GoodGuys/Target etc?

Thanks all.

What Do I Sacrifice Buying a Galaxy Phone anything off Kogan?

    Your dignity.

Depending on how good the deal is, maybe worth it.

You sacrifice any aftersales service when you buy from Kogan and as he sells mainly Grey imports you may have warranty issues also.

Samsung won't touch your phone if it's not an Australian model, so when it's time for repairs and battery replacements either within warranty or out of warranty, you will need to ship it overseas (cost prohibitive) or seek the services of a third party phone repair shop.

You can however trade it in future and Samsung doesn't care if it's overseas stock. I traded in my Galaxy S7 (which packaging indicates it was meant for United Arab Emirates market) and got trade credit out of it.

All s21s are dual Sim. 1 physical Sim, 1 e-sim.

The main issue with Kogan is that you're buying a grey import and warranty claims will be a massive headache.

You also need to check compatibility with bands too.

Honestly with the discounts Samsung are offering at the moment, I think you'd be mad to buy a grey import.

    • Which discounts are you referring to in particular. The best prices I can't find in any Aussie "standard" store is $1696 for a 256gb model of the S21 Ultra 😊

      • Well Samsung are offering a $400 trade in bonus on any S21 series phone at the moment. So if you have an eligible device to trade in you'll get it for well under $1300. Their $50 newsletter voucher might stack too. https://www.samsung.com/au/smartphones/galaxy-s21-5g/buy/

You can also get it from the Samsung education store for far less than your 1696 if you have, or know someone with, an edu.au email address. But the above deal is currently better.
