Using USD Gift Cards in Australia

Received a US$30 Gift Card from work (head office in USA) but am struggling to find the best way to use it here in Australia. Things I've thought of:

  • Converting to Amazon US Gift Card
This makes it limited to use in the Amazon US store which is more expensive to ship items over considering I have Amazon AU Prime
  • eBay.com Gift Card
    Similar problem to above
  • Using for Netflix US
  • Selling on Classified

Coming to the Ozbargain community to ask for advice/ideas on this? Preference would be to exchange/convert to AUD.

    1) Pay for travel/accommodation through Airbnb, Expedia, Agoda, etc. in USD
    2) Starbucks in Australia takes Starbucks USA gift cards. Conversion rates are pretty good in my experience.

That gift card can be universally used in US sites? I don't understand.

    • Correct, you can use it on any US site as it's just a Mastercard. However, I don't usually buy anything off US sites at the moment except through Amazon or Ebay so I'd rather just get it into AUD if possible.

If it's just a Mastercard in USD, can't you use it basically anywhere that accepts USD (eg. Aliexpress, Banggood, etc)? Or maybe even on AUD sites and get a sh*tty exchange rate?

        • This is what I was thinking. Any place that accepts Mastercard should take it.

  • Use it to make a US apple id

  • I think you might be able to add it to paypal and take the USD off of it

I got a $25 VISA Gift Card and I attached to my PayPal account. Good for making small payments on eBay (as you can't split payments).
