Telstra 4G Mobile Broadband Router Recommendation

Hello ozbargainers,

In an effort to ditch NBN altogether I'm looking for a good mobile broadband router to supplement my existing 300GB Telstra 5G service (JB HiFi with free 5G Hub). I'm being given an unlimited Telstra 4G data SIM from work that can get 400Mbps from my phone or the 5G Hub (I can see the cell tower from my house). I'm basically looking for a 4G router that can do the same: max speed (both 4G and ac WiFi), battery powered + Gigabit port without the same price. Currently looking at the Nighthawk M2 but I'm hoping for a cheaper option.

Any recommendation is appreciated.

    • Specs look great but I was hoping for a battery powered router to bring to clients when needed.

    secondhand M1
You wont get much else that
1 ticks all the bands for Telstra and
    2 has good performance.

    • If there's no better option, I'd definitely pull the trigger for a secondhand M1/M2. Just exploring my options for now.

Check out Netgear as they have aircard's and nighthawk's that would do what you want. Be aware that check the bands of the modems to ensure it has the band or bands you want. All of the three mobile network's do NOT have the same bands on all of their towers.

Some of the aircards can be put into a cradle DC112A, which then adds 4 port ethernet and better antenna's for the WIFI and a slight improvement on the mobile reception.

    • I'm leaning into this option, especially with theTelstra branded AirCard 810S that seem to tick all my needs except ethernet port. Unfortunately the cradle is nowhere to be found though.

      • Try gumtree or ebay, but watch the price.
