Bialetti Moka Express 6-Cup Coffee Maker & Coffee Set $29.97 + Shipping (Free with Club Catch) @ Catch

570

The original Made in Italy aluminium moka pot for only $29.97 at Catch, including 200g of ground coffee. I've been searching for a deal on a Bialetti brand moka pot for a while and this is the best price that has come up by far.

There is also the 3-cup version available for $22.47, however in my opinion a 6-cup Moka Pot produces one cup of coffee so I would find the 3-cup to be too small.

They also have the 6-cup and 3-cup 'Coffee Culture' brand moka pots at half price for $9.99 and $8.49 respectively if you are brand agnostic.

These pots are made from aluminium and so will not work on an induction stove unless you have an induction plate to transfer the heat.

Check whether you are eligible for discounted Catch gift cards to bring the price down further. I currently know of Suncorp offering gift cards at 8% off and RACQ at 6% off.

Shipping is free for Club Catch members. 30 day free trials are available to new members, and for previous members it is usually cheaper paying for a one month subscription than paying a one-off shipping rate. Just remember to cancel you membership before it's renewal date if you don't wish for it to be ongoing.

Dont want to get another refund from COTD.

    • Sold by catch so I think you might be okay in this case.

It is a pretty good deal if you don't already have one like I do.

Are theses still made in Italy?

    • They still print it prominently on the side of the pot under the logo, so one would hope it to be true.

    • +5

Yeah, although the company is struggling due to a combination of cheap knock-offs and people upgrading to espresso machines or downgrading to capsule machines.

      • +9

        downgrading to capsule machines.

        Savage

    • Only the particularly good ones, at this price I suspect it's the B tier model. I'll let you all know when mine arrives.

      • Thanks, I know the Stainless steel one I have is made in India

    • I actually visited their factory in Italy ages ago. I hope it is still operative because it was a good operation very much quality oriented

  • however in my opinion a 6-cup Moka Pot produces one cup of coffee

Anyone know the metric for this? I got a 9 cup for camping now and still always end up needing two brews.

I have a Coffee Culture 6-cup pot which produces about 200mL of coffee before it starts to sputter. When this happens there is still some water left in the base but you don't want to keep brewing past this point. From this you could have two full espresso cups worth of coffee (assuming a cup size of about 80-100mL) but I would drink all of this myself in a single 250mL cup, hence why I describe the 6-cup pot as producing only one cup.

      • I never used these, can I brew one expresso shot (100ml) with 6cup one, or should I go for 3cup?

        • +1

You can underfill a Moka Pot, but you will need to figure out how much water you need to put in to get 100mL of brewed coffee since there will still be some water left in the bottom when the pot starts to sputter. Regardless of the amount of water you use you should always fill the filter funnel with coffee otherwise the steam is likely to form tunnels through the coffee puck. That means that you would still be using the same amount of ground coffee.

Essentially, if you want about 100mL of brewed coffee I would recommend getting the 3-cup pot.

    • It's Italian espresso size cups. ie your short black style cups.

    • Nine “cups” equals nine shots.

My wife and I prefer a double shot of espresso, so a four cup moka pot is just right.

    • I use a 6-cup pot to make 2 cups.

    I’d steer clear of Aluminium

    • -1

I prefer stainless as I cbf always handwashing. But Aluminum wins hands-down when it comes to flavour

    • +1

      why's that?

      • Aluminum is a known neurotoxin.

Moka pot manufacturers recommend to run water through a new pot a few times and discard it before using it to brew coffee for drinking. They also recommend not to wash moka pots in the dishwasher. These recommendations are in accordance with the findings of the following study which show that the only significant concentrations of aluminium occur in brand new pots and straight after you wash a pot in the dishwasher.

          • @Luckypenguin: Do not leave a large volume of water in the device to 'soak' it either - not for a long period.

Just soak it for 15 minutes, then rinse it out, wipe with a paper towel.
            Very happy with mine

            • @hamwhisperer: Do you have issues with the pot going black inside? I find it impossible to remove.

        • -1

Only if you’re ingesting particles from the pot.

Just give it a wash after you get it. After that, there’s unlikely to be any significant amount of aluminium wearing off the pot.

  • Have had this for many years and produces an excellent brew. I fill mine well past the h20 marker, which gives me two double shot coffees.

Might buy the 3 version as well, thanks!

  • This is certainly a good deal for the 6 cup, Aldi had these last year for same price (coloured version, but without coffee). If the postage is reasonable it's a good bargain. They make great coffee brew.

The stainless steel ones are like $90:

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/bialetti-6-cup-moka-espress…

For me, I'd say stainless steel over aluminium, but that that price difference…

    • +1

BigW have a stainless steel one for $39

      • No Bialetti bruh

  • My advice is spend the extra on the bialetti. The coffee culture ones were a bucket of excrement in terms of quality.

  • How to use on an induction top?

  • +1

Just got mine, confirm this is the real deal - Italian made model. Hope they don't go out of business.

  • +1

3 cup version is still in stock and half price

6 cup is way too big for me

2 girls 1 cup would be perfect though

    • what ;?
