eBay Not Honouring Promotions for Sellers

I think there are several people who are now experiencing this issue, currently eBay are offering this get 10% of your sale back as an eBay voucher, which for me runs from the 29th Apr to 3rd Jun. They have also since emailed and offered two 'Make more out of your next 5 sales - pay no more than $1 final value fee'. So the first one I received, I listed 5 items. I sold one on the 4th of May, for $299, got a $29 voucher, but got charged the fees. Had to go on chat, representative said that they were having issues with their promotions team, and credits me back their fees. I lamented that I didn't use to encounter this issue before when it wasn't this new managed payments business, rep says hopefully the issue gets fixed.

I sold another item last week for $319, got a $31.90 voucher, and get charged fees again. Have to hop back on chat, and this time they say that you can only have one promotion per item, and that there's nothing they can do, the system won't allow it.

  • Nowhere does it say in the terms and conditions of both campaigns that you can have only one promotion available
  • 'the system doesn't allow me to do anything', so how is it that the last representative was able to credit back the fees to me?
  • I don't even care for these stupid vouchers, I would rather just get my fees back and not have to look for something else to buy, cancel the voucher for all I care, just give me the offer that was given to me

What really irks me is that it's clear that their promotion team stuffed up or something by given people multiple offers at a time, but instead of just copping it on the chin they're coming up with flimsy excuses - prior to this I thought their customer service was decent

I know this is the emotion talking, but from this whole ACCC complaint thing standpoint, isn't it fair to argue that they offered me a deal, I accepted it and followed all the rules outlined in their terms and conditions, and now they're refusing to honour it? And perhaps it's an error on their end (they have not explicitly stated so), but it's not as if they added an extra 5 zeroes and I am fighting for a million dollar pay out due to a mistake - it's 40 fricking bucks. I'm upset enough that I might actually try taking it forward (hell I've written this whole thing down already).

Anyway rant over - I've pulled all my listings, I'm still expecting a call back from them as I have asked to escalate, I took off auto-renew my eBay Plus membership, and will make sure to not recommend eBay as a selling place to anyone I meet who will listen - marketplace and gumtree it is.

If you have any luck in getting the fees owed you back, please comment so that I can use the same argument you used, etc.

Sorry to hear about your issues going on with ebay. As a seller, I fully understand your point and since ebay has introduced managed payments, it's becoming a pain to sell on ebay. The customer support is becoming rubbish day by day and at the end you don't get proper answer to your question. They have also introduced the international fee, which seller has to pay if the buyer's account is registered outside of Australia, even though the item has been sold and shipped within Australia.

Currently, as you mentioned about their promotion team, they do have messed up with lot of seller accounts. Also, last month my account was charged twice for store subscription which ended up in an escalated dispute.

    • "They have also introduced the international fee, which seller has to pay if the buyer's account is registered outside of Australia, even though the item has been sold and shipped within Australia."

Wow. Every year it gets worse…

    marketplace and gumtree it is.

Just remember Cash on pick up on those platforms.

Don't accept screenshot from buyer to said $ has been transferred to you.

  • Feel sorry for OP but this happens to me as well. Finally somewhere to rant……..
I have both the same promotion active and was told only 1 promotion per listing and whichever has the earlier start date….. Obviously $1 fees is better than the 10% voucher as their fees is around 15%.
Hop on to the chat and getting the same response… Hopeless

  • Yep I have the same $1 offer and listed all 5 but the offer counter stayed at 0, I cancelled all the listings cos trying to get the fees credited will be a pain.
I also activated the 10% sale back voucher offer, maybe that's why it won't work. :(

  • Well I have been enjoying both the 10% off voucher and $0 selling fees due to this stuff up since implementation of the new payment system.

Yes it takes effort (time on chat) but it's been a good chance to flog some high value items and profit further from them.

Fees have been zero because everytime I complained on chat they refunded the full amount. I have screen captures if accepted offers and my complaints pre typed in my notes for easier chat sessions.

    Thank you eBay.

    • Same. The FVF promos are separate from the 10% voucher promo, and can be had on the same item.

  • Look at the bottom of the "selling overview" page and it should show "selling promotions"
It will show the promotion and how many listings used that promo. If it still says zero then you'll still be charged full final value fees

  • I got charged a fvf for a gumtree listing pushed to ebay.

The first live chat rep tried telling me that I need to escalate the issue with gumtree since "it's their promotion". I called the rep out on his BS, since there's almost no chance that gumtree would do anything for me. Second live chat rep was able to credit the fee back.

Hopefully they sort their sh*t out.

    • There's a ebay promo page with the terms for it, so they can't really claim that.

    • This keeps happening to me as well. They're garbage. It's their own promotion ffs, but I have to chase them up myself.

On numerous occasions AND after numerous attempts e.g. the most recent one they advised I would be 'reimbursed' the fees after 7-10 days. Waited 2 weeks and yeah, of course they didn't pay up. Get back onto chat and now they have to escalate to an internal team. Just wait another 7-10 days..

Can't stand it, never want to give them a dime. They are such a joke of a company.

has happened to me as well

  • Sorry to hear about your bad experience with eBay.

I had a similar issue happen to me in the past, but I had a chat reference where an eBay Agent stated that they will credit the fees if I got incurred any. Unfortuntately, there are a few really bad Agents on eBay, and a few really good ones. I recommend just keep persisting with different agents until you get one who will refund the fees. I agree that it is bs that you have to go through this much effort, and I have lodged a few complaints with the ACCC before about eBay, but they don't really go anywhere. They generally prioritise cases where a breach in Consumer Law has caused thousands of dollars of detriment to you, or where a large pool of people have been effected. But by all means, I would recommend lodging the case regardless, because eBay have done some dodgy practices for a long time and I hate them with a passion lol

    • Sorry, not this time, I think someone made a mistake and double targetting promotions at users. They now take the easy way out and says it is assigned by system, nothing they can do.

Same with many experiences here, posted an item via gumtree on ebay for a free final value fee

It has been over a month and several agents and nothing has eventuated and I'm missing several hundred dollars in fees.

    • is there paypal involved, can you dispute?

  • Nowhere does it say in the terms and conditions of both campaigns that you can have only one promotion available

I find this hard to believe. Normally these promo have something in the T&C to say only one promo can be used aka they don't stack!

    • But nothing in the T&C's Also, we get targeted for $1 promotion after we accept the 10% voucher promotion. 10% voucher is useless as it has no cash value. Once used, even order get cancelled, it won't be refund.

      • But nothing in the T&C's

Can you link me to them?

Here are the current ones for PICK100

        https://pages.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/pick100/

        or https://pages.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/papy10/

        or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/626348

heck its even listed in the deal the T&Cs

See the Redemption sections in all the above

This code cannot be used in conjunction with any other eBay offer, coupon or voucher.

Here are ebays general T&Cs for promos

        https://www.ebay.com.au/help/buying/paying-items/vouchers-co…

        See

Things to remember before using a voucher, coupon or discount offer
You can only use one voucher, coupon or offer per purchase.

So yeah, call me surprised that two promos with T&Cs don't have this clause in it.

These are buyer's conditions. Not the seller's conditions. The vouchers we got has can't stack kind of conditions. But even that, you get to choose to use it or not. But now the system choose the least valuable way to assign promotions.

          • @bobokingdom:

These are buyer's conditions. Not the seller's conditions

My point is, ebay has these as standard T&Cs, so buyer or seller promos, they'll be part of it.

Link me to the T&Cs for your deal that don't show these.

  • Last month I had $1x5 FVF and two $0x2 FVF offers as well as the 10% voucher promo. In each case, I paid no FVF and got a 10% voucher.

What's interesting about their current FVF promos is that rather than it being used at the time of listing, as with previous promos, it only gets used at the time of sale. So if you listed during the promo, but sold outside the promo window, it wouldn't apply the $0 FVF.

  • Had an issue with my final fees as well, their reason for final fees not going through is that my promo started after I listed my item.

Digging deeper into it, the time zone for accepting the promotion is showing up as "null", so obviously a bug on their site but the timestamps I have for accepting the promo and listing the item look like it should be correct.

"19 May 2021 at 03:02:59 null" <— Accepting Promo for $1 Final Fees
    "19 May 2021 at 04:23:44 AEST" <— Listing Items

Its around $150 taken away in fees, is there anything worth doing like ACCC or should I just suck it up and move on? Multiple eBay chats are not really going anywhere and they refuse to assist further.

    • Already lodge a case with Fair Trading NSW. You may want to do the same.

  • lol i went to their chat and they credited back the fvf as it didnt apply during the promotion when the item i listed and sold was during the promotion. EZ.

  • Got the following reply from eBay Agent: "earlier there was an issue, and members were getting double offer applied for the single item, which is not ideal, and therefore, this has been fixed". eBay can decide what is better for them as the situation is not "ideal".

  • What I don't get is you got a 10% back voucher ( I understand you still paid a little peanut % after fees ) and you are still whingeing .
    `^ Some people !

    • Vouchers are not the same value as cash. As it won't work with anything with discount codes.

  • Today one of my things sold even though I had both $1 FVF and 10% credit promos working. Definitely, ebay managed payments screwed that up as it was working with both before. A personal reminder not to activate the 10% credit, only the $0/$1 FVF promos. Will wait for that to expire now.

    • Did you get charged for FVF?

      • Yes.

        • Managed to get it back?

  • I have issues often too but they always credit back without fuss.

  • Seems I have successfully received the 10% credit stacked with $1 FVFs with ebay managed payments. First I had 10% credit promo activated then the $1 FVF promo. Listed and ended the listing. Waited for the 10% credit to expire. Activated a new $1 promo. Relisted and it was purchased. ebay took out the $1 FVF before sending the finds to the bank account. Didn't notice the $50 credit until now.
