    Hello World

  • “Essence of Software Engineer” sounds like Ted Bundy’s cologne.

    All books are highly rated

    Thanks to mass spam reviews?

I had a quick look at the C programming book out of curiosity, and the top reviews on the US site are mostly 1 star from people that have actually bothered to look at the book!

For anyone actually interested in learning C, don't waste your time with this rubbish.

Is C a good language to start learning?

I've had a play around with Python and a Raspberry Pi but it was mostly just following instructions

        Short answer: No.
Python is good for hobbyists. But if C is interesting to you, try C++ instead. Otherwise stick friendly languages like Python (possibly Java/C#)

Is C a good language to start learning?

It depends on your objectives of course, but I'd think for most people there are probably better options.

C is fairly low-level without built-in support for a lot of features that more recent languages offer.

      • Depends.

C is good for learning some fundamental concepts of Computer Science which is often abstracted away by more modern programming languages (e.g. pointers and memory management). If you are interested in systems programming, then you would definitely be interested in C.

Having said that, my personal opinion is more and more systems programming in the future might be taken over by Rust.

For applications programming, you would look at:
        * Java (lots of enterprise applications)
        * Python (big in data science community)
        * Javascript (web frontend)
        * SQL (database queries and data science)
        * Rust (parts of Firefox browser was written in Rust. It can also compile into WebAssembly FTW!)

Edit: forgot to mention that for performance reasons, some Python modules actually call C code :)

        • Worth noting python is big in the machine learning community as well.

  • Do remember it is a basic book. For beginners.
If expectations and realities are very far apart that makes for a lot of disappointment which is reflected in those 1 star reviews.

    • The "Step by Step Beginner's Guide to Learn C" book's ratings from the written reviews are consistently low - it sounds like it was a paraphrasing job from other sources and very roughly edited.

There are no code samples in this book. I spent 20 minutes of my life reading this book before I realised that its useless
      - Euperia

With no mention of the cl directive it would take 7 years to learn C. And I still can't find my A: drive!!!
      - bill coop

The author's image has previously been used several years ago for
      * Richard Anderson - Learn about the features, functions, benefits and how to go about buying a walk in tub.
      * Trevor Turner - We Buy Junk Cars Orlando FL in Orlando, Florida

The bulk of the ratings are anonymous with no review, easily bought to boost the rating.

The Error-Correction Coding and Decoding book seems legit.

Anyway, they are free. Getting any value from them is a bonus :)
