GHD Platinum+ Hair Straightener

Hi OzBargainers,

The wife wants one of those damn expensive hair straighteners for her birthday.

Model: GHD Platinum+ Hair Straightener / GHD Platinum Plus Hair Straightener

Any color really, the best I could find is AUD$300. Is anyone able to help me find a deal please?

Cheers!

Buy direct as per your link.

So many dodgy copies of these straighteners it's not worth the risk.

  • Amazon have it for $299, stack it with 5% off gift cards if you have access to those and a 6% cashrewards cash back

    • Agreed, I recently bought one from Amazon. I know they're expensive OP but they last quite a while. My wife's previous GHD was 15 years old and still going (although some plastic casing was broken off from accidentally being dropped quite a few times).

    • How do I obtain the 5% off gift cards?

  • I've purchased all my GHD and Parlux over the years from Sydney Salon Supplies and haven't had any issues (at least that I'm aware of!!) with authenticity. Possibly the $300 price you have found, but I wouldn't expect to find a bigger discount than $50 and it be authentic given the amount of knock offs of GHDs around.

Not burn my hair? Cheaper hair straighteners generally have a thin/poor quality coating on the plates (usually titanium or tourmaline) which quickly wears down… at which point you’re damaging your hair. I’m speaking pretty generally here but I’ve owned plenty of crap straighteners lol.

More expensive straighteners are generally either aluminium with a thick ceramic layer or aluminium/tourmaline/ceramic - however with the latter the tourmaline is actually ground down to a powder and baked into the ceramic plate.

It’s a bit steep sure but my GHD is 11 years old. For ~$230 at the time I’m pretty happy. And I’m a male.

Same thing that a $800 computer doesn't do the same thing as a $200 computer. Stupid question.

  • Can I recommend a Cloud Nine instead? The GHD you buy in store today is not the same as the 15 year old Korean ones some of us still have lying around. I know it’s more than you’re looking to pay but I can almost guarantee you’ll get a better lifetime out of the slightly higher initial cost. I say this from experience - I own an 11 year old “original” GHD which is faultless and have had my Chinese made GHD gold replaced 3 times under warranty, and now the warranty has run out, look forward to a painful ACL argument with GHD when it inevitably breaks again.

    • I've never had a GHD but a friend recommended the Cloud Nine to me and I've been extremely happy with the purchase. As you say it's a bit dearer but the results are excellent and it's a lot faster than anything else I've had.

Buy from GHD. My wife had to have one of these, bought one from someone else, not genuine. Had to get a refund on that one and then just buy one from GHD anyway. Now we have a nice genuine GHD that sits in the cupboard, instead of a fake.
