$30 generic SSD's - where the hell did these come from

Looking at diskprices i saw a $36 2TB "SSD" here

I've picked up one out of curiosity, but after doing more digging, it looks like they are everywhere on ebay. Examples are here: one two three

I've tried searching where they are sourced from, but cant figure out what's going on.

Let me know if you guys have any ideas, otherwise ill get one in a few weeks and will open it up to see what's going on.

Most likely 128gb if you're lucky… try to put any more than that on it and will likely get errors. No way its actually 2TB.

    • we will see. they already sent me the notice that it was shipped. ETA in 2ish weeks. I'll tear it apart then.

No need in tearing it apart, use h2testw.

    • They probably are 1TB or 2TB but laptop hdd not ssd…

      • the whole package is smaller than a laptop HD so its going to be wose than that

Haha that's really fast for an SSD. Hope it doesn't start flying in the air at those speeds! Lol

  • $30 for a 2TB with the performance of a T7, eBay money back guarantee FTW!

  • cheaper at wish

    • In this situation, I wanted the price protection until I know what the hell is inside lol

      • very wise - look well iffy

Did they replace the 'Buy it Now' button with a 'Scam Me Now' button or something?

    $36 paperweight… deal!!

    • There are worse paperweights.

I am just happy that so far my scam total in my lifetime has been under $1000 total I think and never falling for another one again I have learnt my lesson enough times now.

The biggest scam I have to face now is learning to manage my food budget because eating out is a scam I need to start eating only home cooked meals but the luxury is so nice sometimes oh well.

Look like a perfect secret santa gift for co-workers you hate during Christmas.

Must admit I was tempted by these on eBay, slightly more but still ridiculously cheap. So looking forward to hearing what you get and hoping it isn't total crap.

My package arrived. So far, I have just plugged in disk and just checked its info. No SMART settings and transfer rates are under 20MB/s. Next will be to run h2testw and see what the true size of this disk is. That might take a while until the verifier throws up an error.

Funny shit, it is a USB2 device as well. It is most likely this scam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFY5hd273lI
