New Washer/Dryer (LG WVC9-1410W)

Hey all,

Looking to get a new washer/dryer combo to replace my current one.

Short listed the LG in the title as probably my number 1 choice. Hoping to haggle it down when shops open back up.

https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-10kg-6kg-combo-washer-drye…

Other option is the slightly smaller model which I've found for ~300 less here. https://www.billyguyatts.com.au/lg-9kg-5kg-washer-dryer-comb…

I'd appreciate it if you could give me any feedback on comparing these two models, or any reviews if you have one.

I don't have space for separate machines so can only get combos. Suggestions for alternative brands also welcome.

Currently it's just my partner and I, but wanting the larger one for future proofing and better drying capacity. Our current one was 7.5/4kg and pretty much used it to those limits. Also thinking that larger capacity means that with smaller loads it'll clean better - is this sound thinking?

  • Based on my personal real experience, don't go LG. Their customer service is somewhere between terrible and the edge of illegal.

Brought a fridge a few years ago from Appliance online. after about 1~2 months of use, the freezer part of the fridge stopped working.

Contacted LG and they send a local technician after more than a week (yeah one week without a fridge). The technician was a cool guy, he tried a lot of things and ended up suggested the fridge might have a design flaw and it is illegal to fix it on spot under Aussie law. He left me with some paperwork and ask me to contact LG customer service. Apparently, their customer service centre is in the Philippines. I contacted them after that and they said there is nothing they can do apart from me sending the fridge to somewhere in Dandenong at my own cost to do "proper inspection and repairing". They also refused to offer anything like a replacement or refund. Their customer service agent constantly suggesting the LG is "following LG's international standard which supersedes Australia Consumer law." and refused to escalate to management as their managers are not in their office, although I tried to ask in 4 separate calls.

In the end, I send the second formal complaint email with a screenshot of a complaint filed in ACCC then the case was resolved as LG would issue a credit to Appliance Online and asking Appliance Online to retrieve it at my own cost. Appliance Online was also pretty cool and suggesting they can take it back without charging me. I end up bought a Westinghouse fridge from AO again and take it back when they deliver the new one. Processing email took them about a week and 3 days processing the credit

The whole Customer experience ends up me without a fridge for nearly 6 weeks…

Yeah, I later realised that I might just go ugly and directly go with AO, but I considered that it was not DoA so it might not that fair for them.

I also have an LG top load washer too (brought at the same time with the fridge). Have to say it is still working in general but: 1> hot water hose broken within 2 months and ends up a good excise of cleaning, 2> the Lid is no longer doing the "soft closing" after a year. Of course, contacted customer service and they considered these as normal "wear and tear". Speechless and just went Bunnings and bought a new hose…

So if you ever have a choice, don't go LG or just gambling their product will never go wrong so that you never need to check with customer service…

  • Which one did you end up getting ? Is it any good ? im currently looking for a washer dryer combo too

    • Ended up getting the 10kg one for peace of mind.

Comparing them in store (albeit, after purchasing), the 10kg one looks a bit nicer also.

Unfortunately it's still not big enough for a superking quilt!

Purchased from TGG, but got price protection and matched with https://pselectronic.com.au/shop/appliances/lg-10kg-6kg-comb… for $999.

Works great, dry cycle is a lot more efficient than my old one. I can wash and dry two loads in one day now, instead of needing two.

      • Hi There,

Can you tell me how thorough TGG were with the price matching?

I'm looking at this Washing Machine also, but am in Melbourne and pselectronic only delivers to Sydney metro. Is this something TGG consider because this cheaper option wouldn't be available to me in any case…

        Cheers

        • Sorry TGG didn't price match. I got the difference back from my credit card price protection.
