Fix Mirror from The Back Scratch

HI Guys,

While putting a mirror trade person has made a big line scratch with sharp nail at the back of the mirror. Now I can see this line from front too because I reckon the aluminium layer is gone.

Any recommendation what can I do to fix the mirror issue?

Regards,
Amit

Quick search has every result saying toothpaste, nail polish or take it to a professional.

    • I tried with an aluminium but it did not work. I will try with toothpaste.

Toothpaste will cause the scratch to become bigger as toothpaste is a mild abrasive.

Call a glass repair place and ask or google or bunnings.

Rub it with minced beef. Amazingly works.

      must be lonely? ;-)

Why doesn't the tradesperson arrange for it to be fixed or install a new mirror?

    • This,
A tradie damaged our mirror in the bathroom installing a tap.
Asked us to buy a new one and he installed and reimbursed us for it.

Got a nicer new mirror out of it.

The silvering has been removed. Only way to fix it is to have the mirror re silvered. Google a place near you.

Just called one person - It looks like re silvering is more expensive than buying a 400 worth of a mirror

Well could be but I assume the tradie is paying so doesn't really matter.

I guess trade person has to cough it as he wanted to tell me that it is easy to fix. Hence I wanted to check independently. Now I know it is not.

@ivegan: If it's easy to fix then tell him to fix it.

@ivegan: If it's an easy fix he should be able to do it.

          • +3

@ivegan: Oh it is an easy fix, it's just not a cheap one.

Get person who damaged it, to fix it.

  • Call the person who put it up and tell them to fix it? Sounds crazy but it may just work. Unless you've just assumed the whole "scratched on a nail" thing.

    • It has happened in front of me, so no assumption involved here.

Then why not tell them to fix it at the time, when it happened right in front of you?

        • I did and the process has started to be replaced.

          • @ivegan: Seems like a superfluous thread then. At least you won't have to rub mince onto it I suppose.
