    Username checks out.
Can you link to what you have in mind from an online vendor?

    • Ive added the links above, sorry I forgot to include them

    • Thanks :-) Ive used that name for many years, but I have spent quite some time on this, I just need someone more knowledgable with computers to point me in right direction.
I went into Harvey Norman/JBHiFi and Good Guys today, but they had little to no stock to show me

  • budget, use case, anything to go on?

    • I was hoping to stay around the $1200 ish, but thats flexible.
Its purely for everyday home use, the occasional download, no gaming

If just home use and no gaming, just get a micro pc and a monitor.

  • It's worth looking at the HP business range as they're a lot better than HP's consumer market. I've installed hundreds of HP EliteOne 800 G5 and G6's and they're very solid units with no failures yet. The downside is they're more expensive and there's a shortage until mid-June/July.

A good alternative is the HP ProOne 400 G6 as it's a step down from the EliteOne G6, comes in Black (if that's your preference) and still has good hardware.

Otherwise you can't go wrong with a desktop and monitor. A lot more flexibility in your options, easier to upgrade and fix too.

I did the rounds of stores yesterday, I was just having trouble breaking down each unit, so thought I would ask here and sleep on it over night, lucky I did, JB sent me a 5% storewide discount last night, I went with the Asus, settled on 24 inch in lieu of better performance for same price

      • Good choice and good timing!

  • All the ones linked to are 1080p panels that are dim and not the best colour reproduction. Monitors like that are worth ~$150 and the PC specs are ~$400 worth of components. To me that's a very bad way to spend $1200, as you are getting less than half of what $1200 can get you, and issues with repairs out of warranty and 2nd hand sale take a further hit down the line.

For ~$3-400 you can get a much better 1440p 27" monitor that is bright and has beautiful, accurate colours, and have ~$900 left to buy/build a much, much better computer than those linked which could be easily hidden out of view (or mounted to the back of the monitor).

  • I second the options above as well OP. Get a mini PC or a NUC (google NUC real tiny and compact). You can even VESA mount at the back of the monitor for minimum clutter.
I did same upgrade for my office use, no gaming.

    Intel NUC i5 ~$370 + 1TB NVME $130 + 16GB Ram $96 =$596
Really easy to install and set up and very zippy with the NVME

Then you can buy a pretty good monitor with that leftover change even 2 for that matter and will last you a couple of years or even longer.

  • I bought a new HP all-in-one from JB HiFi 18 months ago. I have had numerous hardware and operating system issues since day one. In particular, the HP bloatware has been a constant source of bugs. Definitely the worst PC I have ever owned, new or used. My advice is to avoid Hardly Performs all-in-one computers.

    • Always best to reset new computers to remove the bloat. Remove HP Sure Sense and HP Jumpstart as they're the troublesome apps.

      • Many thanks, I'll take your advice. The latest issue I have had for the past few weeks is CMD.exe popping up and slowing down the system a couple of minutes after I log in. HP and Microsoft have not been able to fix the problem so far. It's not task scheduler or malware……. 😕

  • Thanks everyone for your advice, very much appreciated, just got back from JB Hifi, ended up sacrificing 3inch screen size for performance.
I bought Asus, partly cause I am still using my Asus AIO I bought 2013.
Cost me $1101.05, they had it on sale for $1189, sales guy gave me an extra $30 off, plus I got an email last night for 5% off storewide
    Asus M241 24" Full HD All-in-One PC (1.5TB) [Ryzen 7]

    • Make sure you keep the box and packaging in case it needs to go away for repair. If you go back to the store without a box (& packaging), it is a massive task, to create a box that can safely send the unit away. This will delay the process and there is a stronger possibility that your unit will get damaged in transit.

      FYI For a similar price I built a Ryzen R7 with 16GB, RX580 (8GB), 2 x 500gb SSD, 32in curved monitor last September.

It may say Ryzen 7, but it's a 3700U which is a low power and cut down 4 core 8 thread CPU that is less than half as fast as a Ryzen 7 3700 with 8 cores and 16 threads (and also clocked a lot higher). While you may have thought it has more performance - it's actually slower than all the other ones you linked to.

The screen is also very low end.

I really implore you to reconsider your purchase.

  • Buy yourself a nice monitor, stick an Intel nuc or similar to the back of it.

Edit - bit late by the looks of it.
