UNSW or Box Hill for Cert IV Cyber?

I just started out in IT atm (with no IT qualifications/certs), and am pondering if the opportunity arose to take one of these courses, irregardless of fees, to assist me in getting into Cybersecurity, which one would you take? From a purely employability/career progression perspective, which institution would be better to study an online Certificate IV in Cyber Security?

Box Hill Institute, or UNSW? One institution is VET, the other is a university…

UNSW: https://studyonline.unsw.edu.au/online-programs/graduate-cer…

Disregarding fees etc..

  • In big companies the management will see Uni to be better than an Institute of …

If you want to do more courses later or further your education at any Uni then UNSW.
If you want to save money and see what it's like BoxHill.

If you live in Melb then BoxHill
If you live in Sydney Eastern/Inner west then UNSW.

If you know people in IT ask them…..

    • Big fan of diversifying advice so I can come to a more informed decision. A large percentage advised certification is probably better career-wise, but I thought a more formal education couldn't hurt for my chances in the long-run/increasing my chances of progressing into an entry-level cyber job?

Currently in NSW, but since both courses offer online learning, location shouldn't make a difference?

  • UNSW.

On the AQF qualification ranking system, a Certificate IV is level 4 and a graduate certificate is level 8.

    • Ah okay, that does clear up a confusion of mine. Thank you.

    with no IT qualifications/certs

You may wanna start off with something a bit easier and you will probably find a few prerequisites

    • Yeh but cyber is the latest buzzword that pulls in mad cash. Imagine Excom is still around…

    • Would be good to clarify what you mean by preqs, unless you mean general IT certs like Net+, Sec+ etc?

I have my reasons and I am very clear on what I am getting myself into. I'm also trying to scope out the possibilities of working one of these certs into my own roadmap and whether it is a viable option or not.

      • Prerequisites

Things you need to know before they will let you start.
And if it says something like Prior IT knowledge is not required but is an advantage - that mans you need to know shit or you'll be lost in no time.

Like knowing how to walk before you run.

You're probably going to hate it. There's a certain type of personality that works in cyber security and IT. I doubt you're one of those people.

    • I'm curious. What do you think I am, and what kind of person would work in this field?

Never mind lol. I was thinking of a different Batman on here. You'll do fine.

        • He'll pass the cyber attitude test, he exhibits the same sorta attitude as some of the pentesters I work with.

    • What kind of personality do you need for cybersec?
