    • Parents discouraging Chop-Chop?

    • Why is that actually? Why would whole be better than chopped when they're the same tomato in the same can?

Might be an old wives' tale, but I've been told since a young age that higher graded fruit gets canned whole, while lower grade fruit is diced and turned into pulp.

The other reason is that in most cases, whole tomato can simply be broken up during the cooking stage, making diced tomato kinda pointless anyway.

They also have the 790g finely chopped for $1.70 which could be better value for some.

Works out to be 22c per 100g vs 30c per 100g.

    • It's actually 25c per 100g for the smaller tin…

But yes, the 790g can is cheaper per unit.. while I can see it on sale when searching 'mutti', when I click on it, it says unavailable.

      • Ah yep, I was looking at a diff mutti can

For supermarket canned tomatoes and passata - Mutti is number #1 in my view.

I also use their canned tomatoes as pizza base sauce and its absolutely beautul. They are well worth the normal price, and at this special price go for it!

Just got 10 x canned tomatoes, and 10 x passata - I think my partner is going to think ive gone mad hahah

    Great deal

I don't get the hype - those Finely Chopped Tomatoes are a watery pulp.

I either use passata (smooth and more flavour) or diced/whole canned tomatoes (chunks + still more flavour).
