Are Bank Transfers Chargeback-Able?

I am selling a laptop that I don't need anymore on gumtree. Buyer wants me to ship to Queensland from NSW and is willing to pay via bank transfer. Is this a safe payment method that can protect me from chargeback fraud?

I cannot believe it! Have you even heard the phrase
"GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION. GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION. GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION. GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION. GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION. GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION. GUMTREE = CASH ON COLLECTION."

They will send you a fake bank transfer/paypal/whatever they use confirmation.

    Cash only

    • Thanks for the advice

Chargebacks relate to credit cards only.

There are almost equivalent ways a person can try to recover bank transfers, but it's not the same.

  • Will paypal protect seller?

They're much more likely to side with the buyer

  • If you don't need the $$ urgently then wait for someone who will pay cash.

  • They can pay by a check that bounces, or deposit at an ATM, but not have any money. So it is possible for money to appear in your account, but not clear.

    • Or pay from a stolen/fraudulently accessed bank account… sometimes that transfer can be reversed

It is reasonably safe but not 100%.

I'll wait until your next post about being scammed on Fartbook/Scamtree before I respond…
