[VIC, NSW, WA] Herman Miller Sayl $650, Mirra2 $1030, Aeron $1590, Embody $1630 + Post ($0 to Select Melb Postcodes) @ Bad Backs

570

Sharing the love on the Herman Miller EOFY sale. Other states may find Bad Backs closer or easier to deal with than Living Edge.

Bad Backs pricematching the Aeron (lower price on the A size from previous post) & Embody, while also offering the Sayl and Mirra2 at a discount. While certainly cheaper chairs they still are excellent quality and provide even lower pricepoints for Ozbargainers that don't want to spend $1600 on a chair.

Sayl - $650 no arms, $750 arms: https://www.badbacks.com.au/office-furniture/chairs/herman-m…
Mirra2 - $1030: https://www.badbacks.com.au/office-furniture/chairs/herman-m…

  • Can anyone comment on their experience buying from this website?
The website seemed to crash now with just 200 clicks.
    Are they reliable?

    TIA

Bought the chair im sitting in right now from their retail store back when it was open.

no complaints and got exceptional service

      • Same - bought from their retail store in Crows Nest last September. Excellent service.

  • Anyone considering a Mirra 2 should try the Butterfly back vs the Triflex.

    It's just so much nicer…

    Also, website has been OzBargained.

    • which is the nicer one? We got triflex's at work ~ they pretty nice

      • +1

Butterfly. The mesh adds a bit of comfort to what is a relatively hard plastic.

I've ordered the Butterfly with arms from Living Edge.

But Triflex is still good. Just I think it's worthwhile testing the Butterfly out.

        • Not on sale :( for butterfly

@blehgg: Depending on where you work, you might be able to ask for a corporate discount?

  • +1

same price as the LivingEdge deal

    • Yeah I'd prefer to buy from living edge lol. Same price, same return polices. Living edge just looks way more professional and premium

      • -1

Living Edge service is far from premium despite "looking premium".

      • Living edge are the main dealer for Herman Miller

      • I went to Living Edge, the customer service is shite I wait a long time to talk to the staff even she is free

      • Living edge customer service is (profanity). I went into BadBacks store here in vic when it was open and the customer service was much better.

Their website though.. looks terrible.. Either way, all Aeron chairs outside of SA are coming from Living Edge as they are the only distributor.

  • If you’re in Victoria they offer free shipping. Saves $60 over living edge shipping fee. But like everyone else, website crashing. Can’t get through. Probably all the people ordering are home and ordering for the extra week of lockdown!

    • Update. The store now advises me that the chair is not subject to free shipping. 😞

They also say that the website is having issues and they are trying to fix it.

      • Still works for me

        • +1

I just tried again. Wants to charge $40 for delivery. No biggie. I am going to pickup when it arrives. I ordered an embody. Maybe for other HM there is free shipping.

          • @ibuy: Hi, can you confirm if pickup option is available? May just buy from them to save $60 over living edge.

            • @curik: Yes. Pickup available. I’m going to arrange pickup

              • @ibuy: I assume some assembly will be required after you unpack the box. So, it should fit in the back of a car easily?

                • @DoctorCalculon: I don’t know. You’ll need to check with the company

                • @DoctorCalculon: I got two chairs delivered from Living Edge - both chairs came in their own box fully assembled.

                  • @bohn: Thanks for the confirmation, bohn.

They won't fit in the back of a sedan then (even with seats folded down). I will need to bring a tradie ute.
Less hassle to have it delivered.

  • even tho my secretlab is peeling away, il wait it out abit longer.

    • Interesting. How long have you owned the Secretlab before it started peeling? Has it seen daily use?

      • +1

I own the omega PU leather Ive had it for 6 years. Its only started peeling. As of last year. Very slowly btw.
In the last 6 months iv had to vacuum more as a result.
Im gonna hold out a little longer and i will upgrade to one of the herman miller chairs eventually. Targeting next EOYS. Funds are tight rn

        • +1

I placed an order by phone with badbacks. They are happy to take a deposit if you can’t do full payment now and pay the balance before delivery or if you pick up. Speak with Adam. Very accommodating.

      • +1

If i were to purchase another secretlab, id get the softweave instead of PU leather fabric

        • I think all PU peels sooner or later, its often too thin.

I opted for a fabric Ikea Markus over the PU version for this very reason, having now owned both.

  • What's everyone's thoughts on the cheaper Sayl?

It's so hard to know what chair to buy and they all seem great when sitting down for a quick test.

I'm thinking that it might not be the absolute best value available, but with Herman Millers reputation, it's got to be pretty solid and a safe bet, right?

This is for working full time in front of computer.

Sayle is comfortable had 1 for maybe 8 years and passed it down to my son who also finds it great and still looks like new. Only issue, arm rest rubber crumbles but repaired under the 10 year warranty and does also squeak when you twist and turn. I now have the embody and but when ever I sit in the Sayle I am surprised at how good it feels even compared to the embody. Borrowed a friends Aeron years ago for a week to try and didn't like it at all so it all comes down to personal taste. I purchased from Living edge and found them Ok to deal with, warranty was amazing they send someone over to do any repairs at your home

Is this a country-wide service? If I purchase from their Melbourne store, and then move to WA later, could I expect the same service if needed?

I went to BadBacks in Hampton (VIC) two weeks ago. I should say that I don't remember when was the last time I had received such a professional service from someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

Unfortunately, that was not what happened when I went to Living Edge (Richmond-VIC) a few months ago to check their sofas. I had to book an appointment online, but when I arrived there, they couldn't find my name. I showed the email with the time and location (3PM, Richmond) and had the "permission" to enter the store. Store was empty (literally no other customers), seller was lazy, not interested; I wouldn't go back there even if I had found a nice sofa, which I did not. I imagine that's the "premium" customer service that you will get there.

If I had to choose to buy the same item from BadBacks or LivingEdge, for the same price, I'd happily drive to Hampton (or call them, or buy online), considering my experience.

I went in to Living Edge Richmond and had a pretty good experience. Purely went in (no appointment) to have a look and test out the Herman Miller chairs. The staff patiently went through all the functionality and adjustments for the model of chairs I was interested in (Aeron, Embody, Sayl). She said they've been crazy popular and showing people all day, but I still felt their service was patient and attentive. Sorry you had a bad experience, but I can't say the same

    • I went to Living Edge Perth store today, the customer service is shit. I wait a long time to talk to the staff even she is free

    • Same experience. I also went to BadBack a few weeks back to try out the Aeron and the guy there guided me through everything, including giving me advice on it.

Haven't gone into Living Edge but have called them a couple times, and the guy wasn't super pleasant to deal with.

I really didn't need one of these, so i bought 2

The mesh chair from Costco was about $600 and is every way comparable to the Aeron

    • +1

      Still available?

    • You have a link?

    • Share the link, please. I can't find it on their website.

    • +1

I am guessing you are referring to this one here:
      https://www.costco.com.au/Home-Furniture/Office/Office-Gamin…

It comes with a built-in headrest. For the Aeron, you need to buy an aftermarket one.

      • Cheers for the link mate!

        • Although I am not 100% sure if that was the chair they were referring to.
It looks good, but I can't comment on quality and longevity with respect to Herman Miller.

          • @DoctorCalculon: Yeah, and not cheap at $650. For me prefer the Sayl at similar price though of course a lesser model than the Aeron.

  • I was just curious what are all these things mentioned in title, after jumping to the link found that those are chairs

  • +1

Wanted to highlight that on their FAQs it mentions that it might be possible for you to claim the chair as a 'back care' item — call your health fund for a more precise answer. I'll be trying my luck tomorrow to see if it might be covered.

    • Does this then get added to your file as a "pre-condition"? Ur. If you have back problems later they will not cover?

    • do you get any luck?

  • Is badbacks.com.au down right now?
It's not just you! badbacks.com.au is down.

  • I checked with Bupa for back care and they said it counts towards furniture items and can't be claimed. Anyone had success with nailing down the category under which this can be claimed in Private Health? Would be immensely helpful if someone can share their experience.

    • I'll give my health fund a call tomorrow and ask

  • Try to find out some more info between Aeron & Embody. So just called bad backs on their 1800 number. The guy on the phone seems impatient and hang up my call while I was still talking :(

  • Been struggling with the amount of remote work I do and my $300 IKEA JARVFJALLET. Decided to go with the Mirra 2 no-arms with the Tri-flex back as I've had the same design at a previous job.

  • Bupa doesn't cover any kind of cost for posture correction seating equipments - they classify it as furniture. I just went ahead and picked a B sized Aeron this morning from Living Edge. I think this is a good price - done waiting.

  • I'm trying to figure out if the Aeron size c comes with arms? the listing heading doesn't mention arms but the drop down list where you select the chair size lists arms… Can anyone confirm if arms are included ?

  • well RIP i bought the remastered areron at $1690 with free shipping. guess too bad for me?

  • Not sure about arms on size C but my hunch is yes they do. For Living Edge - they told me that the one's on sale have arms included along with caster wheels for carpet (standard). I got a B size. But give them a call @ElHefe.

  • Living Edge (in Melbourne) doesn't even pick up their phone. Bad Backs picked up, and answered all questions.

    • It is lockdown and the Richmond store is a showroom. Perhaps badbacks has a warehouse out back and is a need for workers in store? Either way, would be nice if living Edge redirected their calls.

  • Called the BadBacks Sydney warehouse on June 10th to find the status of Mirra 2 order, was told would arrive around June 18th with delivery around June 25th.
Called today to follow up and was told the container had been delayed to July 20th due to a "covid outbreak in China", which is understandably out of their control but disappointing that there's no communication (And no response from their sales@ email address).

  • anyway to get this to QLD brisbane?

  • My Embody arrived this afternoon from BadBacks Melbourne to regional VIC :)
