Can I Justify a TV Upgrade from Samsung KS8005?

Currently i have a Samsung KS8005 which I bought during the boxing day sale 2016 for $1995. At the time it was the model range to buy according to whirlpool.

So my question is for the same kind of money (less than $2000) have TV's improved enough to justify buying a new one other than a size increase.

For example how would the Samsung TU8000 compare with KS8005

Our main usage would be 4K movies, netflix and TV shows. No free to air television other than the occasional state of origin game.

  • If it makes you happy buy a new TV. Do you have somewhere else in the house to put your current Samsung? then you have access to two nice TV's

I always wait for TV's to die (and all other appliances) - I am incredibly jubilient when an appliance dies so I can buy another one LOL!! Last TV was a panasonic and it took forever to die LOL!!

I honestly don't think the technology has improved that much - actually the android tv (or whatever smart tv software running on it) should be considerably better.

We went from a 10 year plus Panasonic TV to a very fancy Sony a year ago, and both TV's had/have excellent picture quality, and it really isn't even noticable most of the time. It is on some youtube videos. But from a user perepctive (and as someone who uses an apple TV 100% of the time and never touches the Sony tv remote other than on and off) there really is no difference.

dont create more electronic waste. Just go with what you have until it blows up

If you were gaming and really into it I could see why an upgrade could be worth it.

I'd say just stick with it.

    • I guess if you were to repurpose, resell or give away the old TV it wouldn't be creating more e-waste. Just don't put in (permanent) storage or throw it away
But in any case, it's not worth upgrading

From the rtings.com.au comparison that Ronburgunndy11 posted above your current TV is the better option.

  • I don't believe the TU series have as good as panel In them, I have the KS8000 also but mines started to restart daily and the light bleed around the sides is annoying, I'm going to try and claim warranty through JB and try and get an OLED

  • yes you can!
    hope this reassures you.

    Thanks for the replies.

I will go with the majority and stick with the KS8005 seeing as it has no faults at the present time. The previous Samsung lasted 8 years so hopefully this one still has a few years left yet.
