Soft Launch of 3D Standing Desk Builder - Feedback Please!

We've been working on a functioning 3d Standing Desk Builder for almost a year now (shouldn't really have taken that long, but anyway…) and we are soft-launching it here on OzBargain. There is no direct link to the 3d builder on our website, you can only get to it from this link.

As far as I am aware, this is the first in the world for the standing desk niche.

My current game of choice is Two Point Hospital, but this has kept me entertained while working - see what happens when you press the memory buttons or the up/down arrows (try holding the arrow button down) or change the desktop size.

Anyway, Mark (fellow UpDown Desk owner and resident IT guy) and I would really appreciate your feedback on it - improvements, issues, comments etc.

Things to note -
- Touch-screens: swipe to spin, pinch to zoom
- Mouse: Left-button to spin, right-button to drag, wheel to zoom
- Customise the desk using the product selection menus next to the 3d builder
- You can actually add your customised desk to cart and buy it, but if you do actually want to buy a desk, don't add it to the cart from the 3d builder page as the current EOFY sale (free upgrades) won't be added (this will be functional in 2 days). If you want a desk, play with the 3d builder first and then order your desk from here.

  • Had a quick look and interaction.
To me, it didn't really add much to my assessment of the product and affect my purchase decision. TBH a few photos would have sufficed for me, as it is really only the desktop and leg colours that give any sense of the product options.

    • Cheers GG57.

  • From a pc user, It would've been great to have an option to switch it to fullscreen view.

    • Oh nice one MC, hadn't thought of that. Probably wouldn't be too difficult either. And just hit Esc to access menu options is pretty easy.

    That is pretty cool OP.

    • Awww cheers bru.

I think it's pretty neat. I agree with some of the other commentary, in that I'm not sure if it would sway me one way or another. But it is nice being able to see all your options come together, which is something that's difficult to get across without having 50 different photos featuring every possible combo.

Not specific to the desk builder, but I got a pop up email newsletter solicitation when first trying to interact with the builder, which is never not annoying, but particularly so when you've only been on the website for 10 seconds and you're specifically trying to interact with it.

    • Thanks PA. Yes, good point on the pop-up interrupting the interaction.

  • Can't use it to configure an L-shaped desk? Or if you can, it wasn't immediately evident to me.

    • No, you can't. It will be a bit of work to pull that off, but I'll add that to our "for the future" list as it's a great idea.

  • I think a simple model of a person standing (toggle sitting?) at it would be helpful, especially to see as you adjust the height and width.

    • Yes, interesting one, thanks. That would give a better idea of scale.

  • The view could be bigger (or expandable). That way you could easily fit more of the desk in the view while maintaining a reasonable magnification.

    • Yes, good point thanks djsweet.
