NZ Redemption Flights - KF / VF?

In 2018 I was looking at redemption flights to NZ (Queenstown /Christchurch) via Singapore Air (KF). Off memory they were only 25k points (KF), 32k points (VF) return to the Eastern states. I couldn't make the dates work in 2019, then 2020 covid popped up.

Now I assume KF are no longer flying to NZ and don't know what to do with my KF points?

Any ideas?

  • SIA are flying to Auckland and Christchurch, just not from Australia right now

Although they will sell you flights that you are not able to take.

Right now they are selling Singapore to Christchurch with a 1 hour layover in Auckland. This is impossible as everyone arriving from Singapore must quarantine in their first port of arrival, in this case Auckland.
Thus it is not possible to continue your journey to Christchurch on that booking as the Auckland to Christchurch leg is a normal domestic service.

Called them to confirm and their response was "Not our problem"

  • You can redeem your KrisFlyer miles for Air New Zealand as they are Star Alliance partners. It will cost 12500miles one way from ANY Australian airport to ANY New Zealand airport (inclusive of transfers).

Eg: MEL-AKL will cost the same amount of miles as ADL-AKL-CHC, or PER-AKL-ZQN.

    • Cheers for this.

Forgot about AirNZ jumping ship. Where would you book this redemption? Sadly it has been a while. I recon I used to use Delta's search engine to find Sing Air availability, but needed to call KF as you couldn't book them online

ADL - ZQN return would be awesome (even next year).

      • Never been Delta.

You can use United's website, and as of recent, you can search directly on SQ website for NZ availability.

        • Whoops, yeah United (long time no Travel)! I'll have a look at both and see if they show the same availablity.

    • +1

      Cheers for this..

  • I have been using my KF points up on Virgin Domestic flights. It actually works out good as the redemption rate is better then if I was using up my Qantas points, especially on the longer flights say SYD-CNS or SYD-PER. I have also found that you can book Australian domestic flights on KF which are sold as Air New Zealand but the flights are operated by Qantas which is strange but seems to work! This is a good hack to book Qantas Business for minimum KF points especially if you can bag the 787 on SYD-PER.

    • Hi. I can't seem to find any domestic availability on Air nz or Singapore Airlines, only virgin. This is also the same for Perth to any destinations in NZ (I did find a few Singapore Airlines flights to Auckland via Singapore which obviously isn't possible at the moment). Did you book through the KF website?
