RAV4 JBL Sound System. Info Needed

So I got the RAV 4 hybrid cruiser, nice car so far but as expected the 'premium' JBL sound system makes my ears bleed. Have been trying to get some information via google but keep coming up with nothing so why not try OzBargain?
What I'd like to know is what sizes are the front speakers? Also what size is the subwoofer, is it 6" or 8"? The fronts are 3-way components and I 'think' the door speakers are 6.5" but not sure about the mids and tweeters. Also, I'm pretty sure the amp is connected to the headunit via a canbus so can't just be swapped out. I will need to put in a DSP using the speaker outputs from the built in amp. Does anyone know where the factory amp is located?

Thanks.

The JBL system is small and underpowered. Wouldn't expect more even from a "premium" sound system from the factory. I've got the same model too and it's muddy at best.

Regarding sizing, round-up the listed sizes: https://i.imgur.com/y0noHRV.jpg

    • Holy crap that's pathetic. 10W front splits, 8.4W rear coaxials and… a 3W subwoofer?!

      • Based on that image it looks like there may not be a separate amp. Might run straight off the head unit

I’d it’s making your ears bleed just turn it down.

Tried that, it just makes them bleed a little less. :)

  • Do you pay extra for "premium JBL" or is it standard equipment on your model level?

No, it came standard on the Cruiser Hybrid.

The spacers recommended for your car fit 6.5" speakers, so you're on the money there.

  • Paid extra for Toyota JBL system when we bought a new Aurion back in 2016. Not impressed, base line product at a premium price & a waste of $.
Might just have to live with it OP.

  • Never dealt with JBL on Toyota. However, in my experience all standard/premium car audio systems that come by default sound mediocre at best. My ultimate disappointment was Harman Kardon in Mercedes S-class which was absolutely unredeemable rubbish.

You will be better off installing DSP + amplifier + custom speakers. In this way you will retain all the functions of the head unit. It costs though…

    • Thanks all.

I think the amp needs to stay because it connects to the head unit digitally and produces some of the chimes and alarms (and maybe GPS directions?) but I can get a DSP that can take the speaker outputs from the amp as inputs and fix things from there.

      Costs indeed…. :0
