Kogan LED TV 42" $389 Wondering whether it's a good deal?

I found the Kogan homebrand TV pretty cheap, but am not sure about its quality.
Has anyone had any idea on this?

  • I don't think this is LED as per the title - CMO Widescreen Full HD TFT-LCD. There have been a number of retailers selling LCD screens around this size for around that price. e.g. Dicksmiths.

  • Indeed no where says that it is an LED. It's listed under LCD TVs on Kogan, and LED-backlit TVs have their own category.

Reviews on the page say that it's "ordinary", but I guess the same could be said about all the imported home branded TVs from DickSmith/Bing Lee/JB Hi-Fi/etc. Looks like they are in the mode of clearing the stock, as this model has free delivery included. Might be good for those who don't have access to a car to pick up from local shops.

  • Don't trust anything sold by Kogan, they don't honour their words! (like their "get it free if you find it cheaper elsewhere" scam)

    • Mmm … Someone has a bird in their bonnet…

      • +1

For good reason, Kogan put the bird in there…

Kogan told me if I find a cheaper TV elsewhere, I can get their TV for FREE, no questions asked.
I found a cheaper TV elsewhere after searching for hours. I rang Kogan to tell them the link. He put me on hold. I refreshed Kogan's prices while on hold, and saw the price immediately lower to $1 less than the cheaper price. He came back to me, said sorry, you're wrong, our price is actually lower than the competitor's, our website was just slow in updating - no free TV for you!

What CHEATS and LIARS! Tricking customers into doing their price research.

Mod Edit: CuteBirdy has confirmed that he rang Kogan in September last year regarding to their free TV offer. Similar issue has been documented in this past thread and at LifeHacker.

        • Wow.. that's nasty. If they did do that and you can some form of proof (way back machine?) Then you could take it to fair trading (or whatever it is in your state). Choice I'm also sure would be interested in that sort of thing.
