I have one of these and don't recommend it if you want to use it as a PVR. It's OK as a media player. Best to have a read of the forum at http://www.astone.com.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=27 before you buy.

+1 i've got one too. I only use it to play movies from a 2tb internal drive which it manages to do nicely BUT be prepared for bugs and lots of bugs, i still can't get it to network wireless properly.

not too many happy MP300 and MP310 owners in the forums, both players have got a lot of problems and there are no more firmware updates. http://www.astone.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5173&sid…

  • I bought one the last time a few months back and for the price its a pretty good little unit ,,havnt had to too many problems with it other than the occasional record stuff up ,but i would buy one again if i needed too

I've got one of these units and it has been pretty good for me so far. I don't use it as a PVR but as a media player and streaming media player it does the trick (haven't had a format it couldn't play) and the menu navigation is decent. For $109 i'd give it the thumbs up.
You have to take note of criticism but keep in mind that way more people with problems are going to post than those who don't. How often have you posted about something good compared to something bad?

    • very true-but that's human nature!
i bought one last year when it was $99, works ok mostly, but the pvr part is an afterthought, it's first & foremost a media player, could use a UI upgrade!

  • I have one, They are an okay media player but it does stuff up occasionally, eg not taping because it doesn't recognise the internal harddrive, or when I go to play something I've taped it won't be able to find the harddrive. Oh and it is very slow to boot up- takes about 40 seconds. I use it primarily as a pvr. That being said I would still buy it again at the price I paid ($230 with the 2tb harddrive).

  • i only use mine to play movies off the hard drive and USB sticks.
    its good at doing that.

  • Best bang for buck cheap PVR I've seen (and used) is the Magic MTV4000PVR. Priced somewhere in the mid to high $200's. It's only a PVR though.

  • pretty happy with mine. Interface is a bit clunky but plays everything I throw it. Works as an external USB3 hard drive too.(I have a 2TB hd in mine.) Mine plays movies over network fine.

  • I notice it can stream Youtube. Does this functionality seem to work fine?

  • Decisions - I was almost confident in making a purchase of this unit, but after reading many of the bad reviews from the Astone furums I am not so sure now!
If people are suggesting that this unit is good for a media player then wy would one not simply go for a WD Live TV that is morewellknown etc. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…
