Best Device to Connect Laptop USB C Port to Monitor HDMI

I'm looking to get something to hook up my laptop to another monitor. I've found this: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B075FQY5BN but not sure whether the quality is actually decent, especially when USB C docks often go for $100+. I don't really need any extra ports, so it doesn't actually have to be a USB C dock, just USB C to HDMI would be fine.

Any recommendations for a product that serves this purpose? Or something that you've used before?

  • I think can get a usb c to hdmi cable or usb c to hdmi adapter.

  • Just grab a usb-c to HDMI cable. Do make sure the cable can deliver above 1080p resolution, if your monitor requires it.

i like the adaptors because they easier to pack in backpack, so don't need to carry HDMI cable if I don't need one (eg. I leave a hdmi cable at the office)

  • Just make sure the cable properly supports HDCP and has enough power delivery. Had a few cheap cables which would not work with Netflix and make Netflix not display 4K content. All content kept staying in SD despite having max settings and high speed internet.

  • Do make sure your laptop can output DisplayPort over the Type C port, aka DP Alt Mode. It probably does, but if it's an older laptop, best to double-check.

If it does, you can just use a cable.

    • Thanks, my laptop is fine. Would I need to be concerned about HDCP like a comment mentioned above?

      • If you're going to be watching services that require HDCP then you should get one that specifically mentions it, like this.
