  • Bowel Cancer Australia

Hi all! End of Financial Year is coming up, and for this year OzBargain is donating $24,000 to 6 different charities ($4,000 each). You will be the one that makes the choice — by voting on which charity we should give to. The list of charities that you can vote on is picked from 30 charities from our Christmas donation suggestions that did not get picked last year (i.e. most voted charities excluding the ones we have already donated to).

Here is the list, ordered alphabetically:

This poll will finish next Friday on 18 June 2020 at 12PM. The top 6 most voted charities will receive $4,000 donation each from OzBargain.

Some rules:

  • At most 1 vote per account. Ghost accounts will be penalised as per OzBargain terms of use.
  • Votes will be hidden until the poll finishes.
  • Top 6 charities will picked, based on the number of votes.
  • Users are allowed to change votes before the poll finishes.

Some FAQ:

Q: What about $10 per unique commenter?! Can I suggest charities to be added to the list?

A: Wait for the Christmas donations in mid-December.

Q: Why isn't <charity organisation> in the list?

A: The list of 30 charities was taken from last Christmas's donation. Your preferred charity might have already received donation in Christmas last year (Pets of the Homeless, beyondblue, Cancer Council, RSPCA, Cancer Council, The Smith Family, etc), or didn't receive enough votes previously.

Q: Which charities have OzBargain donated to in the past?

A: The full list is on our Charity Donations page.

OzB fellows and fellerettes, think of ARC. They have done so much amazing work after the devastating bushfires from late 2019/2020. Billions of animals burnt alive

    LARGE SCALE EMERGENCY RESPONSE

1 MISSION - FEED AND SUPPORT ANIMALS AND RESCUERS - BACK FRONTLINE SERVICES

Is there a list of whether they do charity work and efficiency?

Ie Salvation Army says they're doing charity by spreading religion instead of helping people. Fun fact, they're allowed to withhold financials of potential trillions because religions can do that. https://www.acnc.gov.au/charity/65f33644e1957d16943f619ddf1b…

SIKH VOLUNTEERS AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED. Helps people but financials are still hidden :(

Great initiative as always! Thanks Scotty and team (& Ozb)

Thanks Scotty and OzB! All worthy causes. My vote again for MND research - having seen a disproportionate number of patients and one family member suffering from this cruel disease. I’d love to see a cure or at least something to slow or stop the progression.

      +1 to this

Thanks again. I was thrilled to nominate a charity last time but this time my vote went to orange sky. I can't imagine what it would be like not to have a shower and clean clothes. Surely it's the least we can do.

  • Good job scotty & ozbargain!

  • Great job as always - so many worthy charities.

  • Nice work OzBargain! Great way to build relationships with customers as well (obviously not the intention).

  • Great & worthy initiative, as always.

Bowel cancer Australia. This insidious disease takes so many young people away from us, but doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

I should add, great selection of charities. Thankyou

    • +1

Especially the Jodi Lee Foundation. Founder came to our work and told us about his unfortunate loss of his wife from bowel cancer at such a young age. Agreed it doesn’t get enough attention

    • That's where my vote is (Y)

  • Thanks Scotty!

  • Thanks Scotty and the OzBargain team!

  • Thanks Scotty and OzBargain team, very generous.

  • Awesome!

  • Would really recommend Sikh Volunteers Australia.
Great to see such a small group being represented within all the big wigs here!

  • Nice to see Red Cross on the list, Leukemia Foundation is Awesome as well.

  • Well done and thank you for this initiative!

  • Great work!

  • +1

Should get UNICEF up on the list as well.

  • Thanks Scotty :)

  • Thank God for the Salvos!

  • +1

I think our mental health system and our youth really need more help so I've voted for headspace.

  • Amazing job by the ozb team

  • Thanks ozb team

  • Keep up the good work! It's great you do this every year!

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks for keeping up this great initiative OzBargain team and community!

I was looking for UNICEF which isn’t on the list this time, but was happy to vote for MSF whose healthcare workers do such amazingly courageous work providing urgently needed medical services to people all around this beautiful planet of ours.

Thanks for all who have voted. Here are the top 6 charities voted by the community:

    • Sikh Volunteers Australia
    • Lifeline
    • Dementia Australia
    • Kids With Cancer Foundation Australia
    • Royal Flying Doctor Service
    • Bowel Cancer Australia

Sikh Volunteers Australia & Bowel Cancer Australia would be the new charities that we have never donated to before. I will organise the donation over the weekend.

  • Thank you!

  • I'd like to add the Stroke Foundation in each state. They frequently get forgotten when it comes to donations so they are on my definite list. Just thought it'd be great to add it in here.
