    • Yeah, and because its a pilots watch, Seiko can't possibly missalign the chapter ring and bezel :).

  • +1

I have an Oris but imo much better value than this watch. This watch is a simple watch day date function. The artix or atelier is much nicer, however if I was to buy an Oris right now. It would be the Aquis. It has the new calibre 400 movement which has a 120hr powerreserve which is great and they look nice too

Lmaooo 2.7k for that ugly POS

Serious question, does it connect to iPhone.

    How is this a bargain?

    • +6

Because it's a better price than second hand listings

      • Gonna take the risk and flip one? Not teasing I'm into watches and tossing it up haha

    • +1

Other than it being a luxury item, which I imagine many people object to, it's a decent price if you happen to want one.

      • +1

Exactly. Not my cup of tea yet a respected brand and watch. Also 750 limited isn't a bad number. Some LE's have 10,000

  • +1

Bad marketing: Product Cost 10$ Price 40$

Good Marketing: Product cost 10$ Price 2000$

  • Looks like high price due to limited quantity, but then it's on sales, obviously not in demand and poor collector appeal. :D

    • Exactly. It's not something people would run to.
When I bought my grand Seiko sbgn009 it was limited and sold out super quick and that was limited to 1900 pieces.
That time piece is the most beautiful watch I will ever own.

  • Pretty easy to get Oris at 20-30% off, just have to be patient. I got mine at 30% off. I think for the price of this watch a higher grade of the Sellita is warranted. Although my Oris is running within COSC specifications.

    • How to get 20-30% off? Online or retail shop?

I’ve got one of these and I love it.

For people who don’t understand expensive watches, think of it as a hobby. Maybe try getting a cheap automatic watch, Seiko or Invicta. Try it on, watch the movement. If you understand that, then you should be able to get why people are happy to spend a bit more to get a bit more out of it.

I wear my Apple Watch most often, and I get as much joy out of that as I get from my $200 G Shock, my $300 Orient Moonphase or my $10k Omega Speedmaster.

I’m sure that there are people who buy expensive watches just to show off their money (those people aren’t buying a $2k Oris lol). There are people who buy them because they maintain value. Most of us love watches because they are damn near magical.

I have Omega Deville, Seamaster, Citizens, Seikos, Garmin Vivofit, I wear what the occasion makes me feel like, the garmin when cycling, the citizen eco drive most other times, the Seamaster when going out to dinners, interviews, or a change from the citizen when I go shopping.

Yeah, I find it magical in how much engineering can fit into such a tiny space in an automatic watch …. get one with a display back (Invicta) as a starting point if you don't own an automatic watch.

    • +3

Yeah, people won't understand why we spend money on expensive watches. Some of these are the same people who spend $3k on a gaming PC than a $1k one or more expensive cars than cheaper ones. There's no need to justify why they are more worth it as I can justify watch purchases as well. At the end of the day, let people enjoy what they want.

the lightbulb moment for me was when i realised it was all powered by a little spring. then they add further complications and it's still powered by that spring. don't get me started on tourbillons….that's pure sorcery right there.

  • I'm a big fan of watches, but one thing I can't stand is luxury watches like this one, where a big part of the value comes from its movement, with no case back crystal to view the movement. Feels like buying a sports car with the bonnet locked to everyone but he mechanic.

  • Thanks OP. I bought 7. One for each day of the week.

    • +1

Buy another 7 for your other hand 🤣

    • you will need a couple of watch a winders if you bought 7, or every day you will need to set the watch from the previous week as the reserve runs out, auto watches are only good for about 36-40 hrs of not being worn.

      • Yeah I bought 7 watch winders..

  • Are people who can afford such a watch really after a deal? Asking honestly…

Or is this not really considered an expensive watch the watch industry…

    • +1

      yes

    • there are some people who will always seek out the best price on everything they buy, no matter how wealthy they are. those are true ozbargainers at heart.

and no, this isn't the most expensive watch out there. not even close. there are watches going for more than the median price of a Sydney or Melbourne house.

    • +1

yes, people that buy these watches still want a deal, it's usually not your only watch, so the urgency isn't there a deal makes it sweeter or it's an occasion like you've come off the ventilator in ICU due to COVID, unlike "need a new phone". People spend $1500 on a phone with a lifespan of 3 years max ….. then it's worth nothing, they could have bought a $500 phone. This watch you would still have in 20 yrs (unless you get divorced) and if you sold it in 3 years it will have held it's value better than a $1500 phone.

    Horological Dog/S***

If you dont make your own movement you are not a real watch maker brand

    • +4

No need to bash Oris as a whole. They have their own in-house design called the calibre 400.

Calibre 400 is an entirely new movement, independently conceived by Oris, and sets the new standard for automatic mechanical movements. It has a five-day power reserve (120 hours), is highly resistant to magnetism, and comes with 10-year recommended service intervals and a 10-year warranty.

      • the calibre 400 in blue divers is a very nice watch, pity the $4800 rrp, but like always on ozbargain, or in a hurry, you wait for the deal, if it every comes up $2400 will defintely nab one.

        • hmmm. I'm of the opinion mid tier Swiss is really not worth much.

Low end swiss like tissot certina mido hamilton sure…. at $1k its no big deal

high end swiss like omega rolex sure… they dont need selling, that shit sells themselves

but mid tier: why?? like raymond weil maurice lacroix and this stuff. nah

          • @tonyjzx: Hmm I bought my Frederique constant at half price as chance is it won't drop from there. But wouldn't buy mid tier at full price. My Longines I bought for $3699 retailing at $4650 also because I doubt it would drop from there. However the Longines is a gamble. I just really liked it.

    • Rubbish, as long as the moment is robust, accurate and reliable. It's a real watch brand.

With luxury goods, you're also paying for the design, brand name and perception.

  • +1

    Have had an oris before.
The value for money is astounding as is the build quality. I wish i still had my oris artix gt
Unfortunately the label doesnt have the best reputation when it comes to tag, omega, rolex etc and this discounting can be quite significant
