Is The ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING & Samsung 970 Evo Plus Compatible?

Hi,

Need a fast boot drive.

Can I use Samsung 970 Evo Plus for my TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING ?

Any other drives that would be faster (startup)?

  • What the need for such a fast boot drive over a normal drive?

    • yeah, go for the mechanical hard-drives !

      • I'd go with quantum bigfoot.. lol

I am using my pc for work and sometimes I need to boot it up superfast…

You could rock a crucial P1 and startup would still be fast. Truth is, the difference (in terms of start up) is almost negligible when it comes to switching between NVME SSDs. But yeah if you’re concerned with start up speed 970 is more than enough.

  • Most new boards have an M2 slot for NVMe sticks.
    - The ASUS site for TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING shows spec of 1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)*1
    - Samsung 970 Evo Plus has interface: PCIe Gen 3.0 x 4, NVMe 1.3
    - So cannot see why it would not work.
    - Note some of the SATA ports are disabled when you install M2 (but 4 SATA plus M2 should be plenty for most people): *1 The M.2 Socket shares bandwidth with the SATA_5/6 ports, and therefore the SATA_5/6 ports cannot be used when an M.2 device is installed.

  • Thanks everyone :-)

  • I don't think I have a slot for the m2.

Might have to buy a 'standard' ssd drive instead :-(

I bought the PC second hand and it has a massive video card which I think use the m2 slot.

    • I'm quite sure you just have to take out the GPU first before putting it in, that's what I had to do too personally.
