  • That title is about as misleading as any store advert is.

Only the basic, boring Polos seem to be 30$, the rest are 60$ , 40$ , 50$

The heck is the title about? lol

    • Unless you want to look like a Chad, the "boring" Polos are the ones that get a look in.

Get the synthetic fibre "active wear" polos from Kmart, BigW etc. They fit great (form-fitting with a bit of stretch), colour lasts forever, they can be washed infinitely…and they cost about 8 bucks. I'm still wearing some I got about 10 years ago. OzBargain pro-tip.

Humans in general are strange. You work hard to make money, then proceed to pay a lot of money for a shirt where the shirt itself cost probably 10% of the value, and the other 90% is for a logo, where you end up helping the company advertise their brand even more.

    • Monkey see, monkey do. It's no accident that brand-names market themselves so heavily to teenagers, an age where the instinctive urge to fit in with peers is at its strongest. Some folks just never grow out of it.

i know what you are going for but i think you are missing something.

if someone can afford to pay for something, and lets say it costs 10x more but only has a 20% increase in quality, it is still worth it to some people.
      Some people
      - don't want to buy a new shirt often
      - don't want to contribute to fast fashion landfill which comes from items being quickly and poorly made
      - the off chance of paying workers more
      - the 20% increase in quality is worth it to them and the 10x increase in price is not
      - actually like the logo and it means something to them whether its sensible or not, all the power to them

i don't think its that humans are strange, just everyone has different appetites for spending, quality, comfort, environmental footprint and what they deem as good or bad value. i try not to yuck someone else's yum even if i dont find it delicious myself

      • I agree that spending more money for good quality pays off in the end. But in this case, Superdry doesn't warrant the markup. $20-$30 for a good polo that will last sure, but their standard $70+ for a polo just for their logo is excessive, not to mention that Superdry's quality over the years has gone down a bit.

        • I have super polos and shirts and i do think the are better than a typical 30 polo. so when they are $30, i think its a steal! I try not to pay RRP if i can help it, agree that the $70+ is not a good deal. I think 30-40 is pretty reasonable for the stuff Ive gotten from their at least

Arguably humans that spend some of their very limited time on this planet making do with an austere and limited experience rather than enjoying some things that they could easily afford and that they would enjoy, are just as strange. For most people the difference between $30 or $50 for a polo shirt once every year or more is negligible. If you cant afford a $30 polo shirt or you are buying them 10 at a time then this comment isn't about you.

      • See my post above regarding synthetic activewear polos that you can get from Kmart. They are, according to most metrics (colourfast status, shape retention, lightness, durability, stretch factor) superior to expensive cotton polos. I suppose you could argue they perform poorly if you're on fire…

Let's be real…you take the label off most "high quality" brand-name clothing, and they immediately lose most of their perceived value, high quality or not.

People can spend their hard-earned any way they like of course, but IMHO spending on things in the sweet spot where the law of diminishing returns doesn't kill the value is what most people would do if you take peer pressure/status anxiety out of the picture. And, if you want to argue that going with peer pressure is a valid choice, that's true too…I just prefer people who have seen past that advertising BS through to the other side.

  • There is an additional 20% off outlet stuff today.

So the Core jackets are $79 from $99.
