(Doorbell) Ring Vs eufy

Which doorbell would you purchase?

I am looking for opinions between the two for a battery powered doorbell. Never owned a smart doorbell, so I have done some research. But what is research without an opinion from this community right?

Between Ring Doorbell 4 (Subscriptions are meh) vs Eufy E8210CW1 2K (Battery Powered)

Any ADVICE would be much obliged.

  • so many PRO's and CON's with both .

Eufy pay once but terrible motion detection.

Ring def would be that while optional, subscription is kinda required.

  • I like the idea of the local storage of the Eufy Homebase. But I've read that the Video Doorbell 2k wireless is kind of laggy when using 2-way communication. Waiting to see sub $250 deals come aroung again for the version that includes the homebase.

    • Yeah I am trying to get it for the $244 (through a mate who works at a retailer)

See how I go, I was just getting thrown off by the pros and cons for both

  • +2

The Hook Up has done a few good (IMO) comparison videos.

Long story short: Eufy > Ring.

If you were concerned about AI functionality (motion, object detection), you could roll your own (i.e. Blue Iris + Deepstack) to overcome any shortfalls on the camera(s) themsel(f/ves).

If it was me, I'd be getting the Eufy purely because of Ring's subscription model and perceived privacy concerns. Eufy will work without the Cloud, Ring will not.

  • I have the Eufy and have been pretty happy with it. The connection to Alexa is very laggy; but have found I use my mobile app more and there is no lag on that.

The battery has been very good as well. Charged it only once so far after about 6 months use.

The motion detection is alright. It has captured everyone who has come to our door. As for people walking past the house; it sometimes captures them.

The only thing I find a bit annoying is that it only captures 30s blocks once the capture is triggered and it misses things in between those blocks.

    • use custom and can change to whatever you desire.

  • Eufy’s still the majority even after the security breach the other day? Are they THAT good?

    • Anecdotally, whilst the Eufy breach was bad, they notified customers and fixed it quickly.

Compare that to the recent Ubiquiti breach, where they didn't notify customers and tried to palm it off as a third-party problem (it wasn't).

Whilst you'd rather it not, breaches do happen; so it's how the company handles it that matters to me.

      • That’s good to hear. They almost become another Swann 😂

  • I've tried both and I've gone with Ring after returning the Eufy stuff.
I really would like the option of local storage, but I haven't missed it yet.
In the US Ring has wireless security products that I would love to see here, but there's some issue with the frequency it uses so it may never get here.
In the meantime, I'm happy with motion detection and alerts from my cameras and doorbell.

  • I have the Ring, the camera is very good, and motion detection areas can be set to make sure trees swaying in the background don't activate it.
Instant alert notifications always work, so you can answer your doorbell activity instantly from anywhere too. Microphone seems to pick up chat easily. Charges at about every 60 days at max power settings (log all movements, keep 2 minute recordings etc) - mine does charge slow (like a few hours) but that might be the random charger I am using too. It is $40 a year subscription to save videos for 60 days which has been extra handy for us to check back on something.
I haven't used Eufy but was concerned about video quality and delayed notifications when I was buiying a doorbell, but that may have changed in the year or so since I bought the Ring.
I'm interested in reading people's feedback here.

  • I have a Ring. Pay $4 a month for the subscription and it is great. I have the Chime Pro as well. I bought the power pack as well to avoid having to charge all the time.

The wife isn't happy about the $4 a month for it, but I am a tech guy and I think it is great. Very reliable and happy with it.

A guy I work with has a Ring and he is happy with it. He said the Alexa integration is crap, but that is just Alexa's understanding. He said Alexa wasn't as good as Google Home. Another guy at work as a Eufy and he is happy with it as well.

  • My ring without a subscription is just a very expensive doorbell 😁

  • I have the Eufy wireless doorbell & love it. You can fine tune the motion detection to your liking & I have it now setup just right for my needs.

Battery does seem to not the last the 180 days as claimed but its still long enough. There is a slight delay for the chat when somebody rings the bell, but it is good enough & to be expected.
