So I'm looking for a DSLR or HD camcorder which will allow me to manually focus (give me a little control, hey?) and records with decent quality. Any recommendations would be handy as I've been trying to find something for a little while and DSLRs really look quite nice when they record 720p but they seem to be just a tad out of reach when it comes to price.

I find the main issue with these types of devices is audio, depending on what you are doing you may need to investigate the audio quality (particularly outdoors) and/or look at an external mic.
