Steel-cut Oats / Oat Groats

Anyone know the cheapest place to get this either in Sydney or delivered to Sydney?

Looking to purchase around 20kgs and cheapest I've found is $81.45 + $20.59 for delivery.

That makes it $5.10/kg delivered which I think is still quite pricy.

I did find a cheaper place in Melbourne but they refused to deliver to Sydney.

The store in Melbourne only cost $29.99 for 10kgs + $6.95 delivery.

That makes it $3.35/kg delivered (based on 20kg).

Hoping to find a place on par or cheaper than this.

Thanks!

  • Side question:
Do you use this to build mass, as compared to "quick" oats?
Are these more effective for that.
I have read various places different views that these are slightly more effective in doing so, and some say only very very slightly and its not worth the 20min wait to cook

    • Sorry I have no idea about effectiveness for mass build. I just find the steel-cut version much more tasty and worth the longer cook. But its much easier to leave in water overnight then it only takes 5-10 mins to cook.

  • We have great difficulty finding steel cut oats too. We thought we had found a source for ten kilos of organic product from SA. Our local grocer was kind enough to order a bag. We received it today 52 bucks so no cheaper than the 500 g bags by Lotus and not remotely as good, it is labelled 'steel cut oats' but it is a milled product, very branny and probably pretty good for mixing with a bread flour for baking but it does not make the porridge that we like. What was your source in Melbourne?

  • Hi I'd also like to know the source in Melbourne that you found :) All the ones I find are no cheaper than Lotus 500g bags.
