  • The closest thing to pure soap I could find local was "Simple Soap" from chemist warehouse but they stopped selling it. Why doesn't anyone just sell small blocks of glycerine?

    • +1

I used to buy Simple Soap too!

I'm now using Balnea Unscented Sorbolene - the 3 pack is on special at Woolies this week for $1.79 (at least in SA).
It's not greasy or smelly (even Simple Soap had a smoky or waxy scent sometimes). Give it a shot!

      • Thanks will check it out. Using goat soap at the moment.
Crazy how much crap is in a bar of soap these days, worse in the liquid/gel ones.

  • Ingredients
Sodium Tallowate, Water, Sodium Cocoate, Glycerine, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, Etidronic Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA

    Pure Soap. Yeah, sure.

Why are soap bars so tiny now
    Miss my 175gm soap bars

Just following the lead of Cadbury and Smith’s Crisps

    • Suppose you were in a prison shower and had a large soap bar that kept slipping out of your hands while in the shower. Is that what you want?

I might pop down and try this. Anyone know what time Woolworths closes in the 1960s?

These are on special, lasts for ages and much better but depends if you have 10 kids etc

    • Is there such a thing as "Sustainable Palm Oil"?

      • +2

Better than unsustainably soureced palm oil. Agree though, it's a bit of an oxymoron like free range eggs, humanely slaughter etc.

I try to avoid palm oil but companies claim to be doing it (and indicated on the products containing).
Most soaps have a lot of chemicals and plastic wastes, can't win in short of spending a lot of nice products in cardboard packaging.

        Doing my part otherwise..

      • Why would not it be sustainable? It's not like they're chopping whole tree for oil, it's made of fruits that palm tree produces every year no matter whether you collect them or not.

        • +1

The amount of deforestation that happens to plant more palm trees in some countries is disturbing.

          • -1

@reactor-au: It's still a tree mate, works exactly same way as the one before it.

        • It's more about the destruction of rainforests to plant palm trees etc

        • similar to date trees, something else would be planted there anyway.

The bigger worry is the amount of deforestation and clearing required to support animal agriculture, far worse than palm oil (even though it's not ideal either)

Yes, we get those. Buy in bulk whenever they go on special.

      • I only got two, maybe should get more @ 40% off

        • Need a big time capsule. Buy now and seal it for the future, then open when it goes up in price 😉

Thanks OP. Bought a dozen packs to donate to a charity.

  • 4 star rating, impressive!
