Negotiating New Car Price - Mazda CX-3

Hi everyone

I’m looking to buy a new Mazda CX-3 for mum and would like some negotiation tips please.

The CX-3 Maxx Sport with paint upgrade comes to $30,500 (standard EOFY price). I’ve managed to negotiate the price to $28,250 drive away. Just wondering if this seems like a good price in the current market.

Is a discount of $2250 reasonable or have you guys managed to negotiate the price lower?

Thanks in advance

Cheers,
Sand.

In current market seems good, most dealers won't even entertain a price reduction convo

Go for it Sand. In today's environment that seems pretty good.

  • Make sure to get original mats and full tank of petrol. I was only able to get $500 off on a demo Mazda 3.

Start at 20% discount, settle on 17%

Or at least that's what the internet says, right?!

I'm sure someone will comment that 5yrs ago their mum's friend's dog got a car for 25% off and they threw in a home-cooked meal by the DP's wife, and you'll be left annoyed that you couldn't negotiate the same thing, making your final purchase price not seem like a 'bargain'.

    • Omg. The guy is here to buy a car, you need to follow the Trail to a Sale handbook. Rate, conflate, exaggerate, manipulate, confligate, congratulate…

Instead of being a sassmouth, what you should be doing is asking your manager what you should do next and then offering to take OP on a test drive while your manager works out the best price.

If you just followed the Trail to a Sale method, you wouldn’t be on $25k a year and you would always be closing. I should know, I was in sales for 7 years 15 years ago. I can’t believe that I have to school you on this stuff.

I know the CX-3 has added a few gizmos here and there but for what is essentially the same car I was looking at 6 years ago when the CX-3 Maxx was $24.5k, $30.5k is nuts.

Seems Mazda is having a laugh with prices these days.

  • What's a paint upgrade?

    • Its the prestige paint - an extra $500

  • Thanks guys!

  • Oh for crying out loud. This has been asked a dozen times in the last few months. The answer is always the same. Have a search and you’ll see.

If that’s what you’ve negotiated to, that’s what the price is. If YOU aren’t happy, don’t get it.

  • Is CX-3 Maxx Sport the FWD or the AWD?
    Auto or Manual?

    • It's the auto FWD

  • Its slightly better than what Ive got quoted for at $28.5. Put it in coz the wait will be loong. (I went for the neo at 25.5 and siad if i want sooner maxx would be +3k more)

    • Is that maxx sport auto with a paint upgrade ($485)?

Similar to you, I first negotiation Neo for $26,000. Then asked for maxx at $27k. Sales rep said nah. Then i offered $28k.

Sales rep counter offered $29k. I offered $28,250. He's manager agreed for $28,250.

I subsequently added $490 for ceramic tinting on top.

I've now put a $500 deposit for July collection.

      • Yes so both was auto with paint. Went to the parra west end one haha. So looks like same timelines then as maxx would be july. Anyway hope it gets delivered and congrats on zoom zoom

  • Thanks for sharing. Gives me insights

  • Wish you could share which dealership you bought with. Would visit the same :)

      West End Mazda - Blacktown

      • Thank you!

      • Went to West End Parramatta first and then Blacktown.Blacktown was so much better. Thank you for the response else may have not ventured so far with threat of lockdown looming (and now realised).

        • No probs. What price did you achieve at the end? With Blacktown, I didn't have to haggle much to get to $28,250 (with prestige paint).

Also Parramatta had a 2020 Maxx listed for $28,500. Over the phone, they weren't willing to go below $28,200. Not sure if you had a chat re: that car.

          • @BuBerryCo: I haven't yet come to a conclusion and final price as I am still arranging funds but it was the same.
I thought they are the same dealership but Bkacktown were so much no nonsense like you said than Parramatta who didn't feel like were interested in a straightforward deal, too much of old style this and that.
