Dell Laptop Returns - How Can I Avoid Paying Restocking Fee?

Copped a refurb laptop from this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/630073

I thought it was a great deal until I saw this appear today - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/631847

I copped the Lenovo laptop too, but now I need to work out how to return the Dell laptop.

Any experience with returns for Dell Outlet? Do they charge the 15% restocking fee as mentioned on their website? https://www.dell.com/learn/au/en/aucorp1/policies-returns

The Dell laptop hasn't arrived yet, but assuming they won't charge me the fee, I will commence the return process when I receive it. Alternatively I have to list it on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace…

Any guidance/tips is much appreciated!

You just tell them you didn't need it and they will sort out the rest. Ive done it with no restocking fee, YMMV.

    • They have shipped out mine. I will call them tomorrow as Dell outlet only operates during weekdays.

What’d they say when you asked them?

  • Out of interest OP.
Why did you end up switching from a low spec gaming laptop to a semi decent lenovo mid range laptop (however not built for productivity or gaming like the Dell).

    • I didn't get a low spec gaming laptop, but instead I got a mid level refurbished Dell laptop for $789, so it made sense for me to choose Lenovo because of:

      • better processor
      • brand new
      • business grade build quality vs entry level of inspiron build quality
      • if cashback goes through it would be 740, which would be cheaper than Dell, but only IF the cashback goes through

I called them this morning and the rep said that my order has been shipped last week, but she said she will raise a request to stop the shipment, cancel the order and refund for me. Hopefully I won't receive it today as it would make things more complicated lol

I asked whether I would be charged a restocking fee, she said I will not be charged, but she has to raise a request and get approval from an internal team, so let's hope that goes through so I won't get charged.

    • What did you say to the rep to avoid the restocking fee?
