TV Bias Lighting Options. Govee?

I am looking into bias lighting for my TV. Philips gear is out of the budget and from what I can see it appears that the Govee Immersion is the next best option in terms of cost and ease of configuration. I just can't find it in Australia!

What has been your experience with bias lighting? Any recommendations?

  • Do you just want a static light or active control like Ambilight?

For static light, I just have a cheapo smart bulb tuned down in brightness that comes on and off with the TV via a power saving master/slave power board
Total cost ~$20 including the lamp holder and power board.
I already had the lamp holder and power board, so total cost $8.

    • I was after active control like Ambilight. Thanks for your input though.

  • Amazon US sell Govee, I bought the Flow Pro from there. Excellent value and do a good job. Waiting for a deal on the Immersion to add to my setup (77” tv)

  • +2

If you are good with electronics and RPi you can build a DIY Ambilight equivalent using Hyperion. I'm also aware of some off the shelf LED strip controllers compatible with Hyperion which will make the build much more simpler and easier.

    • If you're working from a PC source (i.e. don't need HDMI capture) then a DIY Ambilight setup via an Arduino & Prismatik for the software capture is an excellent alternative, and certainly much cheaper when you don't need a Raspi, compatible capture card, HDMI splitter etc.

I use it this way for screengrabbing my Xbox & PS4 remote play windows on my PC for the backlighting, and then swap the monitor to native HDMI for lower display latency. Super pleased with the results!

  • Great input guys thanks.
I have an LG CX OLED and mainly use the built in apps or the Telstra TV/Roku box.

I am a picture snob so the idea of using anything that sits between the input signal the tv does make my back tingle a little which is why the Govee is inviting.

    • Why are you Bias lighting an OLED?

  • So I found the product on sale on amazon in the US. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LVPWQQP?_encoding=UTF8&ref=csld…

I am an amazon prime member in Aus - anyone know how I can order from the US store? When I go to it it says I need an Amazon Prime membership.

    • Your AU Prime membership is for the AU store only. If you want to get the Govee at the Prime price, you’ll need to get Prime US membership. Get the 30 day free trial.

    • You need a VPN to buy an Amazon prime US membership

Edit - im not sure why its not letting me reply to your comment above

  • Slightly old thread - but MediaLight seems to be the best option for a quality calibrated bias light.

I installed the 3 metre Flex Mk2 on 3 sides of my 65" LG C1 - it's excellent, only need to run it at a fairly low level, but gives a very good crisp D6500 white.

If you care enough about a calibrated display, then I'd recommend a calibrated bias light.

Coloured lighting is for effect, not accurate picture quality.
