eBay Best Price Guarantee

I have previously used the eBay Best Price Guarantee a few times, which comes in handy when I have discounted eBay gift cards or wish to use eBay Plus hassle free returns.

I recently tried to claim this guarantee on a Samsung Tab A7 32GB tablet, price beating Bing Lee's $299 price (yes I know Officeworks/Amazon had it for $249 yesterday, which is even better).

However, they refused because the listed "ticket price" is $377 and the "offer price" is $299. Previously, I was able to beat any catalog price from their listed retailers, as long as the offer was available to the public. I went through a bunch of retailers, with a couple of reps and each was refused because they had a higher RRP crossed out and do not consider any sale pricing.

Has anyone had any recent experience with this? Each time I was told, it is now internal policy to only consider the listed RRP or regular price. This excludes a whole lot from their listed retailers unfortunately, as they always have an RRP listed.

I can see how they may exclude the Amazon deal yesterday as it was only available to Prime members. However, I cannot see anywhere in the T&C where it might exclude a regular sale or only calculating based on RRPs - which things rarely sell for.

In the end I purchased through Amazon. However, it's a bit disappointing to see the policy on this change.

They are an awful awful company to deal with sometimes..

No wonder Amazon has got’em beat..

      • Yep, I was skeptical of Amazon because I always bought and sold on ebay for about 15 years and if it ain't broke don't fix it sort of thing. I tried amazon prime on a free subscription and can't go back. Weekend delivery is so convenient, prices are cheaper as well usually.

IM actually shocked there are that many still using Ebay

        • Ebay breaks itself a little bit more each day.

That being said amazon cs has really dropped off in quality too.

  • I had the same issue with them where they said digidirect sale did not count as the crossed out value is the value…even though the crossed out value said DONT PAY X value, digidirect price: * Y value*

I disconnected from chat, and asked the next CS agent that processed it no problem, no fuss.

Ebay CS has really gone done hill in the last 2 years - its especially frustrating when it's pretty clear English is not their first language.

    • I tried a couple of reps without any luck. They weren't able to tell me any further than internal policy.

What was even more misleading is that on chat, they each asked me to purchase the item first and then they will determine the outcome in 24-48 hours (knowing full well they would reject the "sale price" I provided).

It's ridiculous because crossing out the RRP is super common in Australia. I can only think of a few stores like Bunnings or OW that don't explicitly do this.

      • Keep trying

        • I gave up and bought from Amazon instead. I wonder if this is the actual new policy or whether different staff are interpretating it differently. I had no issues previously.

          • @kds123: Wait, maybe I misread your OP, but ami right in understanding you didn’t actually buy it yet at time of writing op?

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: That's correct, I get the chat staff to confirm the amount they will produce a voucher for before I lock in the purchase. They have always been okay with this in the past.

              • @kds123: Interesting … I’ve always bought first and asked questions later. If you really wanted to you could have escalated to ACCC I guess (if you had purchased first).

                • @Jimothy Wongingtons: I tried doing the post-purchase claim before and between the time I purchased and contacted them, the item went out of stock. So from then on, I made sure to claim at the point in time with the same operator - as youd be aware some will say yes, whereas other will say no
