Recommendations for Tuya Bulbs That Can Be Easily Flashed with Tasmota

I recently moved all of my tuya devices to tasmota with homebridge and I'm really happy with it, except two of my light bulbs had the latest firmware and as such could not be flashed. I don't have the means to crack them open and solder. Does anyone know any bulbs that come with firmware old enough that the tuya-convert exploit still works? I tried a Kmart one and that didn't work, and I've read that Kogan have dropped the esp chips entirely.

Here's a list of bulbs which are compatible with Tasmota, if you can find those model numbers in stock anywhere then you might be in luck, otherwise….

  • The trick is finding the ones that are Over The Air flashable. I dont want to screw around with serial flashing on light globes.

    • Ummmm yes, that is what the OP is asking

      • Apologies but I was responding to Gronk who kindly listed all the Tuya compatible lights.

But yes you are right, I didnt read OP's post close enough

        • All good :)

Yes finding old bulbs that can be flashed OTA are like finding needles in a haystack these days!

Hoping someone uses all that spare bitcoin processing power not being used now the price has crashed for good use to crack the tuya fw issue ;)

  • I've probably rambled on in my post a bit to much, but i think I'll end up buying some preflashed ones from Aliexpress, as it is seemingly very unlikely to find any that work with tuya-convert within australia.

    • Do you need all the bulbs to be smart? If you only want off and on functions, a smart light switch would be a more cost effective option. However if you want to dim your lights or control the colour of them, that is best done at an individual light level.

      • I would opt for switches, but dont want to call an electrician out to install them / don't want to install them myself. Bulbs are my only practical option. despite having most of my bulbs on tuya, most likely with their latest firmwares, they all managed to flash with tasmota. All except two. Just want to replace those with some i can flash with tasmota. I willl likely either buy some that are preflashed, or try to find some used on facebook/gumtree or ebay.

  • Check out Athom gear. seems pretty good, and comes with either Tasmota or ESPhome (i chose tasmota, and flashed the couple that i got with ESPHome to tasmota).

get the shipping from China it is really fast. The shipping from Sydney to perth has taken weeks, china was 5d to perth. They also wave some WLED devices.
