New model imminent, massively improved. Price won't be much higher.

These are so much cheaper in other regions, so don't bother until they drop below $700.

      • was waiting for a wise word to pop up :)

i'm still waiting for the akg n400's to arrive from korea!

        • You can get them for $215 via Amazon AU. Presumably imported, but a local seller and it's a great price.

          • +1

@jasswolf: That's exactly where I bought them. I guessed it's a local dropshipper (is it you? lol) but they are coming straight from korea . Took your advice last time and decided on the n400 rather than galaxy pro.
But omg transport is slow! Must be on a slow boat from China. Literally. Left kr and stopped over at gz china!

@inamberclad: Ah right! Nope, not the shipper.

Makes sense that it would ship via China, as Alibaba and others generate some very affordable shipping prices. If it was during the Prime Day sales, it will come in fairly quickly once processed, as there will be a flurry from AliE sales as well.

You think an s8 plus won't cost much more on release? Dreaming.

        • -1

There'll be a new tier, not a price increase on the Plus line, they also need much more uniform pricing, as evidenced by clearance sales in the US being ridiculously low (ie. it's overstocked and not selling there, despite the cheapest prices globally)

Samsung also have a lot of work to do for pricing a competitive offering against OLED laptops, the iPad Air, the Apple M1 lineup.

They've been coasting for a while, not making adequate use of production synergies between phone, tablet and laptop products.

They know they need to make changes, and you can see some elements of that in the S7 FE design choices.

If they don't make a move, they'll be left behind by a host of Android competitors who will happily slap a 120Hz OLED panel together with a Snapdragon 888.

@jasswolf: All largely irrelevant with regards to your original comment.

The S8 plus will be RRP at launch will be significantly higher than this discounted price.

Also very debatable if there will be significant differences in specifications, what else can they do at this point apart from a slightly better SOC.

            • @noise36: They have the option of the Snapdragon 870, the 888, the Exynos 2100, and at the upper echelon, their next gen Exynos that they might squeeze into a laptop and Ultra-brand tablet.

If they're serious about actually selling units and competing in the space properly, they'll drop MSRP, which had a further 25% markup in AU.

The S8+ likely won't have anything significantly new about it except the SoC change.

Please keep in mind that Samsung, LG, BOE, AUO, Sharp, and JOLED are all working on OLED fabrication production from phones through to monitors, something finally coming to fruition this year. I'm sure I've left out others.

OLED is very mainstream now in all segments, and the 120Hz controller boards are mainstream, with 240Hz in the offing.

        • The top 14" model would be close to $2k rrp for sure.

  • How are these so expensive?

    • +1

It's followed Apple Samsung trends of last few years - charge what they think they can get away with

  • The Chinese already got the tabs on samsung. I got my xiaoxin pad pro, SD870, 90hz OLED for $650 delivered, brand new model. The UI is clean snd minimal.

    • Google Play Store access?

      • Yup for sure. I got the keyboard case too, good quality typing. Also supports a Dex like mode.Techtablets has a good review on it.

    • Is this Xiaoxin brand owned by Lenovo? My google searches are telling me it is. Wonder what the Lenovo branded version of this will cost in Australia? Would like to also know how it compares to the Samsung s7+ in terms of performance?
Officeworks has a 30 day returns policy which I can take advantage of.

      • Yup it's the Lenovo one. SD 870 VS SD865+ so not much difference in it. Lenovo Australia is useless, they didn't even bring in the 2020 version.

    • Is it a global rom? With English language? All the specs look amazing.

      • Chinese ROM with English and Chinese. However, the global ROM is coming soon, the 2020 model had it not long after launch.

    • hi can you share where you bought the tablet and was the price inclusive of your accessories? when i looked into this when it came out it was a bit expensive. sounds liek its come down

  • Curious why Lenovo wouldn't bring it out via official distribution channels. Does Qualcomm have non compete agreements with (someone else) for our market?

    • No idea. All I know is at least in China, the Xiaoxin pad pro 2021 has already been recognized as the best bang for buck tablet in the market.

      • related to the Xiaoxin , where do you recommend to buy from ? and do you get any sort of warranty? cheers

        • I got mine from Giztop, been flawless so far.

          • @NotAnAudiophile: do you know how it works if there is any warranty related issue?

            • @swings: Actually no. I've bought a few things from there, never had to send one back.

  • Damn, they are OOS. anyone know another place to get these form?
