Problem with Mistral 3.5L Airfryer from Woolworths

Hello,

I bought the Mistral 3.5L airfryer from Woolworths about a month ago. I plugged it into a 4-way powerboard that also connects the front door alarm system and a Telstra Gen 2 modem, and turned it on. About 30 seconds in, it turned off and so did the alarm system and modem. The power board was gone. I thought our electricity turned off but everything else still worked, so I tried it with another power board which also fried. Then I plugged the airfryer into a power outlet (so no surge board) and it worked as normal.

I looked it up and found it was likely a surge overload, something that has never been an issue in my house before. I have a heater, tv, laptop and phone chargers, and a fan connected on 4 or 8-way powerboards all throughout the house and nothing has ever gone wrong like this. I'm out two powerboards now.

Is the airfryer problematic or plugging in too many things into powerboards that fried two powerboards?

The airfryer is 1500W, both of the powerboards can handle max 2400W.

  • What's the power rating of the powerboards? Are they surge protected and fused or cheapys?

It fried them. Nothing to see here.

      Product worked as advertised.

    Your airfyer’s too strong 💪

Sounds like the airfryer fryer wanted the powerboard for dinner and fried it.

The cheap powerboards based on usage over a long time at home and work do NOT last when connected to high current devices or if they are very old (yellowing of the pastic is a dead giveaway the powerboard is old).

Was the second powerboard new or one you do not know how old it was?

    • About 3 years old.

I've learned my lesson, will be buying better ones this time.

    It says in the Manual:

"This appliance must be earthed. Only
connect it to a suitable earthed AC
    240V~50Hz mains socket

Heaters and other higher power devices, I’ve usually seen the manual ask that you plug it directly to the wall, not through a power board.

Just because you got away with it before doesn’t mean it is ok. Please check the manual before you plug those high powered devices to a power board, you could also risk getting a house fire.

    • Yes thank you for the sound advice. I'll check manuals for all of our other appliances in the house.
