Monitor or TV for Casual /Non Competitive Gaming?

Hi all!

What is the better option when you’re on a budget?

The consoles I use is usually PS4 (soon to be 5) and my Nintendo Switch.

I don’t play competitive games like COD and stuff. Currently my most played games is Hades, Animal Crossing and Valhalla.

Any thoughts appreciated!

TV (bang for buck in size)

    • Oh thanks. Honestly on a limited budget so that’s good to hear!

  • I get bad eye strain gaming on a TV…. it is 5-6yrs old. but monitor is better for it IMWO

Wouldn't this depend more on your setup than anything else? Are you at a desk or on a couch?

Large gaming monitors deliver high refresh rates, which is why they cost so much. Same as buying a TV with high refresh rates, there's a huge premium there.

Consoles target 60hz though so there's no point buying either in a high refresh rate. Just get a TV, because no one bothers making 4K@60hz large monitors.

    • I guess it depends on what you call large. There are a range of 43" 4K monitors that you can buy. They're more expensive than TV's though, and for console gaming you may as well just use what they were designed for - a TV.

  • How far you sitting from it? Are you a couch gamer? What's your budget exactly? $200 $400?

    • I would be on a couch/chair in my office. My desk is small and has my work stuff on it so I would put it on this table set up I have across my room. Not that fair off but not that close. Under 500 is pref

If you’re not sitting right up close to it, I’d go for a TV.

Probably around 43 inches for $500.
