Bed recommendation for dog with arthiritis

Hey guys,

The old girl is getting on and starting to get a bit of arthiritis, I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for a comfortable bed to see her through her twighlight years.

I've seen orthopaedic dog beds but haven't had any experience with them, is it just marketing or are they worth it?

She's a medium sized staffy and budget is about $200. If there is something that costs more but would see a great increase in her quality of life, i'm happy to splurge a bit.

Side topic: anyone have any other tips for dogs with arthiritis?

Thanks!

Just a firm dog mattress at ground level protected from draughts and insulated from the cold winter floor is the best you can do.

Anything too plush makes it difficult to get out of and anything above ground level will require your staffy to possibly jump causing pain.

    • I was thinking pretty much this. She already has a ground level bed but might be too soft.

I guess I'll check out what they have in the pet shops.

      Cheers!

Maybe fix the title to include Dog?

    • Was very confused even after the first line!

    • Thanks mate, updated

  • We bought the Purina PetLife Airtech Hybrid Mattress for our border collie after she had surgery on her leg. The vet recommended it for joint issues, so it would be perfect for your dog. A bit pricey, but ours has lasted 4-ish years, and with regular washing of the cover, it still looks new. Our dog likes it because it's soft enough to be comfortable, but firm enough for her to stand up and change positions without sinking too far into it.

Edit: this is the cheapest I could find, but didn't look for long. You might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. :)

  • We got a big barker which is fantastic but probably out of your price range. I've heard these are good.

Also try some rose hip vital powder mixed in with food. Works wonders for dogs dealing with arthritis.

Tumeric is meant to be good for arthritis in dogs (& humans!)

Curcupet-K9 is one such product endorsed by Australian vets however check with your vet for alternate recommendations
