Battery Charger Suggestions - Looking for Fast Performance

Hi All,

I've been looking for a decent AA/AAA battery charger for some time and just never find one that I think will do the job well enough. My previous choice was a Varta I think, it was an absolute beast - did 4AA batteries in 30 minutes, which in my situation is a godsend.

Currently I'm running some heap Ikea one - the thing is bloody beautiful but the performance is an absolute joke - no smarts, just charges batteries for x hours and then calls it a day. I have 7 kids, 3 of which are toddlers and anyone who has toddlers will surely know that electronics are super appealing to them, I've been charging the same 8 batteries for THREE whole days now, each time they're close to done our 2 year old comes along, pulls them all out and then mixes them with dead batteries, I'm getting a little tired of it now haha.

My criteria is something that can charge a range of batteries (AA/AAA at a minimum, but i've got a few 18650's now), has some smarts built in (ie. a full battery would only breifly accept a charge while a dead one will go as long as required) and the faster the charger the better.. within reason, fast charging doesn't do much in the way of battery life.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks all!

  • Hey There!

Based on good reviews, I got the Xtar-VC4 which is a great charger but a little slow (make that really slow). Perhaps give this one a miss.

Good Luck, I'd be keen to know which is a good fast charger too….wink!

  • Instead of a fast charger, maybe another charger with another set of 4 AA/AAA batteries. You can spread out the battery wear / tear, and always have a set ready.

I'm using something like this from Ikea .. can be camouflaged in a bookcase / shelf from 2 year olds (or older) and charges both AA/AAA and has auto cut off when batteries are fully charged.

    Cheers.

  • We bought a fast charger from Aldi that can do 6 AA/aaa's at a time, plus it's C/D/9V compatible. It was @ $25-30, however I haven't seen them for the last 2 years.

Before you go looking for that, get one of these

local option for quicker post https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233956551032

It will let you see which batteries are charged and which are dead. I have one, keep it with my batteries, and it has proved its worth 10 times over
