Educate Me on Rowing Machines

Team

I need to get my life together, need to lose weight, get fit, should only take me 18mths… or more.
But by the time I get home from work, its too flammin cold and dark and wet to go outside in Melb.

Rowing machines, loved em at the gym 35yrs ago when I was training and few ton lighter. but no idea what type they were.
but there's magnetic, air resistance, water etc…

What's the easiest to use for a beginner who doesn't want to get something that will turn his fat anus off doing it losing interest.

Thoughts on these?

Thanks

concept 2 rower, the best youre gonna get for that price point

    • Where did you get my price point being $1500. ??

thats light years beyond my price range.

  • Also, for me, doing exercise first thing in the morning is best for me. After work, I'm too tired and have no motivation. Lunch time, I usually get distracted with other meetings. Early morning, before work is the only time I have enough motivation to get my arse to the gym

    • not a morning person by any way shape or form.

Get a concept 2 its the only rower that you see at most gyms, and has a massive online community behind it.

If you decide its not for you, it will sell quick as well

Consider something else if noise is an issue the fan on the Concept 2 can be loud.

  • Alternative to the Concept 2 is the WaterRower. You can get some bargains on Marketplace/Gumtree. Then add the SmartRow module and you have online races and competition.

WaterRower currently have Ergatta upgrade kit that is only available in the US. This adds a screen and gaming functionality. They will bring the upgrade kit in 2022 to Australia.

    • US$549? No thanks

  • I don't know what the hype is about about the concept 2. I like water based rowers better. A lot of gyms will give you a free trial, you can try them out.

Here are some rowers at a similar price to the one you're looking at…

As an ozbargainer may I offer an alternative to buying an item at risk of being a white elephant?

    • Ride your bike to work, I ride 25kms a day every week day, except lockdown days in Perth).
    • Use exercise equipment in public parks.
    • Go for a run in public parks.
    • Do exercises at home, push ups, squats, burpees, step up and down, lunges.

I like exercising but believe it should be cheap, not expensive.

I would die trying to ride 2.5 klms… its been 30yrs since I rode anywhere near those klms to work..

      • You'd be wasting your money investing in a Rower with your attitude.

Apart from the fact I lost most of the use of 1 foot/leg and 1 arm in a hit and run several years ago, and suffer severe bouts of depression, you dont know shit about me.

  • I tried mine on a river, didn't even float! Disappointed
