    You really only have four options now, but only option 2 seems feasible if you want the cards ASAP:

    • Wait until Coles or Woolworths run a promotion offering 10% extra on the gift card balance when you purchase a gift card, or bonus Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points (but that is contingent on Coles or Woolworths running these promotions again in future);
    • Use discounted Coles gift cards to purchase David Jones gift cards in-store at Coles (but keep in mind you can only purchase gift cards with gift cards at Coles in certain circumstances, plus it is against Coles’ gift cards terms and conditions);
    • Use discounted Coles Gift Mastercards to purchase David Jones gift cards (but that is contingent on a Coles Gift Mastercard promotion running again in future);
    • Wait for a credit card cashback promotion (e.g. AMEX statement credit) to purchase a David Jones gift card (and goodness knows how long you’ll need to wait).

    Keep in mind that if you purchase David Jones gift cards at Coles and scan your Flybuys card, you will earn base Flybuys points, so that’s a nice 0.5% back. However, you will only earn bonus Flybuys points if there is a specific promotion saying you’ll earn x points for purchasing y denomination of David Jones gift cards. (In other words, the amount you spend on gift cards will not count towards any other bonus points offers you receive from Flybuys, including the spend $xx in one transaction and get y bonus points.) Granted, scanning your Flybuys card when purchasing gift cards will cause the Flybuys algorithm to jack up the minimum spend requirements for the bonus points offers you may receive every week, so you have been warned.

    • Thanks for that - option 2 seems a bit risky as i want $1.5K worth lol.

      Will have to wait for option 1 - didn't realise Coles/Woolies sell DJs cards - thanks!

        Keep in mind there is a limit to the number of gift cards you can redeem in a single transaction (last time I checked, it was 20 in-store, 5 online). Coles only sell DJ gift cards in $50, $100 and $200 denominations, and I think Woolworths only sell $50 and $100 DJ gift cards, so be aware of those limits.

        The great thing about DJ gift cards is that you can consolidate multiple smaller gift cards into a single gift card, which will get you around the redemption limits. You can consolidate gift cards by going in-store to the Customer Service Centre or by contacting their head office via email or phone. However, I found out the hard way that some DJ staff are more willing to consolidate gift cards than other staff, so don’t be overly surprised if you get a staff member in-store who flat out refuses to help you.

        • Hi again! Sorry for bringing up this old comment but wondering if you know whether DJ GCs can be used to buy any of those luxury designer bags they sell in-store? I read their T&Cs, only Sephora is called out as a place they cannot be used. Just wanted to confirm this. Thanks!

            @peanut48: My assumption is that you can use David Jones gift cards to purchase luxury designer bags, because they are not specifically excluded under the gift card terms and conditions.

            Remember the whole saga where JB Hi-Fi got in hot water for not accepting gift cards as a payment method for next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2020? They were likely breaking the Australian Consumer Law, because their gift card terms and conditions never stated that next-gen consoles were excluded (and the ACCC makes it clear that businesses must clearly spell out all exclusions and restrictions of a gift card).

            I think Sephora is specifically called out in David Jones' gift card terms and conditions as an exclusion, because they actually operate their own small-scale store within one or a couple of David Jones stores across Australia, so their POS system is not at all connected with David Jones' POS system (even though it physically sits within a David Jones store).

              @WookieMonster: Thank you! Also realised can’t get discounted GCs for DJs anymore but this will help if I happen upon any.
